Description

Soda Drinker Pro is the commercial version of the game Soda Drinker Pro of which the first version was released in 2008. While the basic concept is the same, this release has vastly more content. It is an ode to drinking soda. Every level contains a new environment, shown from a first-person perspective, where soda can be drunk, held in the left hand. Locations include the beach, a park, space, a creepy forest, a man's butt and so on. There is slow, but free movement in each setting and only two actions are available: lifting the soda and sipping. Sipping drains a meter and when the soda is empty the next level is started immediately. There are no further goals except for collecting bonus sodas, but this does not influence the gameplay.

The game has a deliberately unpolished look. Every environment is always a large box, somewhat like a closed diorama, with crude textures against the walls, mixing different art styles including regular drawings. While walking around a voice-over constantly lauds the joys of drinking soda, but these clips constantly change in volume, overlap, are adapted based on the environment and have amateurish hisses and clicks. However, similar to titles like Frog Fractions and Pony Island, there is another game hidden behind the initial coat of paint. The difference here is that the "joke game" does not end after a few minutes, but is continued almost endlessly unless the player knows how to access the other one. That means that some players may just as well play hours of Soda Drinker Pro and do not get to experience the other game, as it can only be found in a specific level through a specific action. After finding it once, the second game called Vivian Clark is added to the main menu to access it right away.

In Vivian Clark the main character is a raindrop. The secret game contains hundreds of small games or levels, each with different rules, art styles and perspectives, linked together through transformations. When the raindrop touches another character like a bird, a snake, a balloon or a jet fighter, it transforms into that one and gets to play an entirely different level. That way, players choose how to link together levels by bumping into the character they want to experience next. Each level has obstacles, enemies, sometimes optional quests and other dangers. Certain items can be collected as a global score. If a new character is not reached and the current one dies, it returns to a hub world where photographs keep track which levels and characters have been experienced. The raindrop can then jump into a campfire and evaporate into the sky to start again with a new run. There are also three clocks in the hub world that can be picked up. These offer a fast challenge that, if successful, lets the raindrop continue where the previous run ended. After losing a number of lives the game is over and cannot be continued.
