With this game there's no fancy introduction to this game. After a couple of developer / publisher logos it's straight into the main menu
thumbnail
When the player selects 'Start Playing' they are presented with this screen. There are lots of battles to fight. This is screen 1
thumbnail
This is screen 2. Each battle is rated by the number of turns it takes to complete
thumbnail
This is the third screen of battles. There's one more screen but it only contains a single battle.
thumbnail
In addition to battles there are 'Operations'. These contain multiple battles each
thumbnail
The multi-player options include 'play by e-mail'
thumbnail
Playing the first battle, 'A Battle Of Mirrors'. Stage 1 of a battle is selecting a battle based on the summary

Playing the first battle, 'A Battle Of Mirrors'. The battle begins. The < and > symbols in the bottom panel can be used to change the camera position or alternatively this can be done by the mouse
thumbnail
There is a comprehensive in-game guide to the action keys
thumbnail
So the green line delimits the area held by the players forces
thumbnail
Here a piece of field artillery has been selected and orders are about to be issued
thumbnail
Here the arc of fire for a unit is being set
thumbnail
There's something moving in the bushes.
thumbnail
Each unit has to be given a command separately. Here they've been given fields of fire
thumbnail
A unit has been ordered to advance. As they do so they maintain the same field of fire. The on-screen displays did get corrupted early on in this battle and never corrected themselves
thumbnail
Re-enforcements have arrived. Unfortunately they've been ambushed and they won't last long
thumbnail
Looks like the Russians have re-enforcements too
thumbnail
The player can change the camera's point of view to get really close to the action. Here the German tanks are being tasked with stopping the Russian tanks
thumbnail
The crafty Russians are using all available cover to advance. Since they cannot be seen the units have no target, however they can be ordered to cover an area of ground
thumbnail
When all assignment orders have been issued the player used the 'Go' button in the lower right to end their turn. Then the computer opponent moves their units
thumbnail
No battle is complete without an explosion or two. This game has those too and they're more realistic than the overstated pyrotechnics found in other games
thumbnail
Multiple units can be selected at a time by dragging the mouse over them
thumbnail
Playing by e-mail. Once a player has made their movements the game asks them to save the game. The save file can then be e-mailed to the opponent who loads, updates & returns it
