The main menu - a character has yet to be created. Once a character is created they appear centre screen

There's a Game Guide option on the main menu, it opens up a browser window
thumbnail
Creating a character. <br>There's no customization option for the character's appearance, just a male/female option. Veteran is the harder game, in Hardcore mode death is permanent
thumbnail
The load screen is shown as the player moves between areas of the game
thumbnail
The game starts with a cartoon-like sequence. The witch, hangman and captain have captured a possessed creature. When they hang it the spirit escapes leaving the player's character
thumbnail
The player's first view of the game world is beneath the jibbet they were about to be hung from
thumbnail
Receiving the first quest
thumbnail
When the player enters or nears a building the roof and walls become transparent
thumbnail
This shows the inventory system. We've just found The Sheltering Pants Of Decay and the game automatically compares them to the ones we are wearing showing they'd give more protection
thumbnail
Not all items are weapons, food etc. Some characters leave journals and letters behind. Reading these can increase the player's lore knowledge and add to their experience points
thumbnail
This isn't a boss fight but Barrog the Bloodied is the toughest opponent yet
thumbnail
As the player progresses their inventory becomes full and difficult choices have to be made. This Novice Tunic will regenerate energy which is good but we haven't enough spirit points to wear it
thumbnail
After killing a boss the player receives additional weapons and/or armour and/or potions etc.
thumbnail
A stash of goodies in the caves beneath Burial Hill where the first quest is set. There are similar caches of goodies in barrels, chests, piles of scrap etc
thumbnail
These are tainted hounds
thumbnail
These are boneback gnashers. They hunt in packs and fire darts as well as biting
thumbnail
As the player levels up they earn points which cal be spent upgrading their character's abilities but first they must choose a class
thumbnail
To keep the undead dead the player restores shrines. This earns devotion points which can be spent earning favours from the gods
thumbnail
Unless the game is being played in Veteran mode death is NOT permanent. Here the player was overwhelmed by a pack of mutant animals and was reanimated back at base to complete their quest
thumbnail
The first quest is complete
