The Addams Family

The Addams Family is a highly entertaining game that plays as well - exactly as well - as it did on the SNES. Genesis owners who've never played the game will enjoy roaming through the Addams Mansion. Those who've seen it before might as well Lurch in the other direction.

Ocean have done it again. After wowing us with Parasol Stars a short time ago they have now succeeded in surpassing even that which is an incredible feat in itself. There can be no denying that The Addams Family ranks among the top three movie conversions ever written. The graphics are humourous and a joy to watch on the screen, the scrolling is smooth and the sound is incredibly jolly. In fact, the entire game is presented perfectly. Despite the tendency to raise your blood pressure a bit it is, nevertheless, a superb game that everyone should own.

Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn. In meinen Augen sind alle drei Versionen gleichermaßen gut gelungen. Das Spiel ist leicht zugänglich und nicht zu schwer, wenn nicht sogar ein wenig zu leicht. Es macht allerdings unheimlich viel Spaß, so dass jeder Addams-Fan wunschlos unglücklich mit dieser Software sein müsste, um es mal mit den Worten eines Addams auszudrücken. Wenn man wie ich ein Addams-Fan ist und die abnormal makabren sowie grotesken Sitten und Gebräuche dieser Sippe mag, dann hat man hier auf jeden Fall ein Zehn-Punkte-Spiel vorliegen. =) Da ich aber ein wenig objektiv beim Bewerten bleiben muss, werden tatsächlich nur neun Pixel-Heroes-Punkte auf das gut betuchte Addams-Konto gutgeschrieben, denn das Spiel entspricht sicherlich nicht jedermanns Geschmack.

Täytyy nostaa fetsiä Oceanin markkinointipolitiikalle. Viis lisenssin uskollisesta seuraamisesta, kunhan tuote myy. Addams-pelillä ei ole muuta yhteistä esikuvansa kanssa kuin päähenkilöt ja tapahtumapaikka, sekin hyvin löyhästi. Tavallisesti asia olisi negatiivinen, mutta The Addams Family on poikkeus, sillä Oceanin parjatut koodinvääntäjät ovat todellakin oppineet virheistään. Gary Braceyn unelma Mariontappajasta on toteutunut!

There are loads of neat touches in the game. Gomez does a fetching doggy paddle whenever he falls into water, which enables him to get even more points by bumping off all those bothersome fish. He can pick golf balls up to kill enemies and a fencing sword for a bit of hack and slashing. One of my favourite bits was Lurch's questionable musical skills at the family's piano. The more members of the family I rescued, the more tuneful Lurch's playing became. And what of the nasties? They're here in force, with dangerous end of level baddies, like the Executioner in the torture chamber who bears an uncanny resemblance to Patrick Moore. Lethal knights in shining armour come at you in the hallway, whilst in the furnace, apart from the drawback that you can't actually touch anything, you're treated to blazing creatures who look like they've OD'd on Ready Brek. The Addams Family is fab, cutesy, platform fun. I almost wish I could run away and marry it.

This is Ocean's best stab at a film license to date, and one of their best 16-bit games of any type - they've learned to ignore much of the plot (not that this particular film had much of one anyway) and concentrate on the characters and atmosphere instead. A great game...

Don't despair - though the control method gives it the old college try, it can't destroy the game. The smart addictive qualities keep you coming back to the action, and the basic idea of pitting your sneaky wits directly against the programmers' is irresistible. You could even argue that with three skill levels - determining how hard the trial-by-fire screens are - you've got three games for the price of one. Yes indeedy, there's definitely a good few weeks o' fun to be had with The Addams Family. It's just that the annoying, quirky bits stop it from reaching the dizzy heights of true fabdom. What a shame.

Good solid product that will get you addicted until you finish it (which may not be as long as you'd like it to be).

Die schlechte Nachricht zuerst: Alle in Addam's Family vorkommenden Spielelemente wurden aus Nintendos Mario-Spielen geklaut. Die gute: Addam's Family macht trotzdem oder vielleicht gerade deshalb eine Menge Spaß. Ihr hüpft auf Monster, findet geheime Gänge und erforscht unterirdische Höhlen - gut geklaut ist halb gewonnen. Ihr könnt auch witzige Extras finden, beispielsweise eine Kappe, mit deren Hilfe Ihr in der Landschaft herumfliegt (leider zeitlich begrenzt). Erst so lassen sich manche Geheimpassagen erreichen. Viele stilvolle Hintergrundgrafiken, witzige Monster und angenehme Hintergrundmusik sowie eine saubere technische Umsetzung (kein Ruckeln oder Flackern) versprechen einige witzige Jump'n'Run-Sessions mit der Addam's Family. Nicht nur für Gruselhumor-Fans.

Unter dem Strich bleibt also ein ambitioniertes und auch recht unterhaltsames Jump & Run im typischen Konsolen-Stil, zum ganz großen Süchtigmacher wie Mario einer ist, fehlt hier allerdings noch eine Menge Feinschliff!

If you're tired of repetitive side-scrollers with little to offer but a brand name (The Flintstones, Rocky and Bullwinkle), then stay away from this family. But, if you've got time (and brain cells) to kill, you may want to go over to the house and see how the Addamses are doing.

Onkel Fester hat so einen auf die weiche Birne bekommen, daß er sein Gedächtnis verloren hat und mit wehenden Fahnen zu Abigail Craven übergelaufen ist. Zusammen mit ihren schlimmen Gehilfen "The Judge" und "Tully" hält sie den Rest des Gruselclans sicher hinter den unzähligen Türen des Addams-Bungalows in Verwahrung. Nur der wackere Gomez kann dem sinistren Treiben ein Ende setzen und Töchterchen Wednesday, Sohnemann Pugsley, Granny und Morticia aus den Klauen der Hexe befreien.

So even though, 26 years later, we still put all our efforts into maintaining economy (because, you know, the idea of saving money still hasn't been invented yet) and can blast endangered species into outer space to prove how far we've come without learning anything instead of fixing this apocalyptic time bomb, I can still wholeheartedly state that THE ADDAMS FAMILY for SNES (because there are a lot of different versions) is the best movie-to-game translation of all time and will provide the hours of entertainment we'll need as we hide from nuclear miasma permanently and look for things to do so we don't go mad and start killing each other underground, too.

Gomez saves the rest of the clan in what could have been a boring Mario clone. Instead, it's a not-bad, variety-filled game that's complex without being impossible.

Als der Familienvater Gomez nach Hause kommt, sind alle Beteiligten spurlos verschwunden, so daß er sich in 14 netten Levels im und um Addams Haus aufmacht, seine Lieben zu finden. In der scrollenden Landschaft sammelt er Zaubertränke auf und besiegt skurrile Geistermonster. Ein niedliches Jump'n'Run'chen.

For Jump & Run fans, the Addams are worth a look, this also counts for fans of the series. I for myself am putting it into the gameboy from time to time, because after you have once mastered every passage, you can beat the whole game in about half an hour, which is always a good one.

In conclusion, I must say that The Addams Family can be a somewhat entertaining experience, and if you're into games where you jump around attacking enemies while playing in a non-linear environment looking for things, you'll probably look past its faults and play it through. However, if you're looking for something you can just jump right into and enjoy this really isn't the game for you. It takes a little too long to get used to the problems and even then you're forced to play through the entire thing at once. You may find yourself getting so far, losing all your lives and then going back again to only get so far and thus it keeps going until you finish it. This is exactly what my experience was like, and I can see how it would definitely annoy some people enough that they'd want to forget about it entirely. It's worth a look at least, but keep what I've said in mind.
