Description
A team of coastguards board a nameless Russian Whaler lost in the storm.
Little do they know that a team of CIA operatives tried to do the same
shortly, all of them ending up dead. Within minutes, the entire coast
guard team shares their fate, except one person, veteran USCG Tom Hansen.
Now it's up to him to discover which kind of creatures wiped out his
mates. Are there any survivors? What happened aboard this vessel?
How does it's recent visit to the Russian scientific drilling platform
"Star of Sakhalin" fit in?
This game is a typical console-style action adventure, similar to games
like the
Silent Hill series. Most of the time you'll find yourself viewing
the action from a third person point of view, following your character
around as he utilizes an array of weapons to dispose of a variety of enemies.
Occasionally, a puzzle is to be solved or a cutscene (rendered with the game's
own engine) to be witnessed. Additional insight can be gained by reading the
various notes, letters and diaries that can be picked up every now and then.

Trivia
On September 30, 2005,
Cold Fear (PS2) was put on the infamous German index by the BPjM. Shortly after, on October 29, 2005, both Windows and Xbox releases followed.
Note: Indexed products by the BPjS/BPjM are illegal to sell or make available to minors in Germany and it is illegal to advertise for it in any form. But there is absolutely no law forbidding any adult to buy such a product. The only exception is when a game was in addition also confiscated (or put on the so-called "List B" for BPjM games), but this is rather seldom the case.
In this particularly case here,
Cold Fear was just indexed, but not confiscated.
However, due to the fact that advertisement also means the presence of a product on the shelves of a store, the product will disappear from the public. But it can be bought in supporting stores "under the desk" (per request).
BPjS/BPjM = German Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Schriften/Medien = Federal Examination Office for Youth-Endangering Publications/Media.
