TOONSTRUCK is a hilarious, first-rate romp through a goofy cartoon world. With many puzzles, humorous conversations and characters, unexpected plot devices, masterful voice work, and more, this game is well worth playing by anyone who appreciates a good laugh. Give the game's developers, Burst, a lot of credit. At a time when many adventure games are tying to outdo each other with violence and ponderous, MYST-like story lines, TOONSTRUCK is a real breath of fresh air, a Saturday morning cartoon for your computer screen. With a dominatrix sheep.

Overall, Toonstruck is a very pleasant adventure game to play with. Not only will its witty humor make you smile endlessly, but the fine graphics and the lovely soundtrack will definitely appeal to you, not mentioning the remarkable voice-over that all other adventure games should learn from.
Power Play

I finished Toonstruck in three evenings (but then I always seem to with these things. Perhaps I am great) and had the most fun with an adventure since I played Flight of the Amazon Queen. And considerably more so, because Toonstruck maintains its pace up to the end, with a smashing plot twist just before you change CDs at the halfway point, and a thrilling but funny resolution. I'd imagine. (The review copy doesn't have the cartoon sequence ending, which I discovered by beating it fairly and squarely and having it crash. Cheers then.) It's the first game I've seen to go beyond Monkey Island while remembering to be enjoyable to play, and I can only hope it inspires others to do the same. Always fair, always entertaining, always fiendish, jolly challenging and about cartoons, Toonstruck is excellent. I am so pleased.

Gameplay is lots of fun, this is a huge world to explore, and the inhabitants (and in some cases, their evil counterparts) are just a joy to interact with. If you are a die-hard adventurer, get this game. You will enjoy yourself immensely. One warning, this game, while cute and sweet at times, is not for children. There are some semi-mature themes here that are OK for mature teens and adults, but not for the younger gamers out there. Bottom Line: Lots of fun for mature teens and adults. Humour is probably suited to a certain taste. Think like a toon or fail. Adventure fans will like this.
The second half of Toonstruck follows a somewhat more traditional path - stuck in Nefarious' castle, you must escape and find your way home. At this point, however, the traditional adventure game conventions work. Toonstruck is such a well-crafted game it's hard not to enjoy yourself. The voice work is excellent and the story is amusing enough to get you through the slow parts. In the end, though, it's the puzzles that make the game so great, and finishing Toonstruck only made me wish there was a sequel looming on the horizon.

Even though it talks too much, Toonstruck provides hours of puzzles and fun. You'll be struck by this unique blend of animation and live action.
There is a lot to like in Toonstruck, it's a fun place to visit and you may not want to leave. The graphics and sound effects are very good. Christopher Lloyd is perfect as Drew Blanc and is ably supported by a host of other quality voice characters. The name, Drew Blanc, as well as being a truly dreadful pun (my favourite kind) also seems to pay homage to one of the great stalwarts of the Saturday morning cartoon shows -- the late Mel Blanc who was responsible for many of the most memorable cartoon voices. And that's not all, folks. The game is delightfully set up for a sequel.
When LucasArts unleashed Monkey Island it couldn’t possibly have known how it would stand the test of time. It set a standard that has only rarely been equalled and never been bettered – and not for want of trying. Just about every major publisher has tried and failed to find the right combination of puzzles, humour and depth required to propel their game from tedious PC mediocrity to the dizzying heights of number one hit.

Just Adventure
Unfortunately, craftsmanship is not always enough to make a game fun. I had a hard time getting Toonstruck, mostly because I simply didn't care about the plot. Particularly in the first half, my "mission" seemed silly and uninvolving. Plus, the deadly pace of the endless conversations drove me crazy. I wanted to have much more fun playing this game than I ended up having. Call me a killjoy, but I wanted to tune out Toonstruck.
