ECW Anarchy Rulz's lack of originality has been surely offset by its numerous gameplay options. However, this game is definitely worth a rent before you buy, especially if you currently own other wrestling titles. It is because of the game's many options that I have given the game a higher-than-I-would-have score of 87%. By the way, 'What about Raven?'

I couldn't even get myself to play this game all the way through. I actually was hoping when I was looking at the box that it wasn't based on the HR engine. My horror was realized shortly after I saw the menu. No denying the fact I've seen this menu before. I think this game would be MUCH better with an updated engine. To quote Bart Simpson "I didnt think it was possible, but this sucks AND blows" AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE, CAUSE DT SAID SO!!!

The whole f’n show this is not. Just like Terry Funk and Hulk Hogan, this engine should have retired long ago. Along with the arthritic gameplay, this game shipped full of glitches.

Even if you don't mind unoriginal visuals, no amount of acceptance can save this game when it comes to what matters most, the gameplay. Acclaim added table, barbed wire, and brimstone matches, and even went so far as to improve the CPU AI, but it didn't bother to change the moves, the moves system, or the overall feel of the game a single iota over any of its prior wrestling titles. While Anarchy Rulz bears the ECW logo, the wrestling action is simply too low impact and refined for the likes of this brutal organization. For some unknown reason, the game puts an emphasis on grapples and throws, rather than high-risk leaps, takedowns, and cheating. Smart designers would have made their game representative of ECW by emphasizing this latter set of skills.

If you're a huge ECW fan, then you'll own this game by the time you read this. If you haven't bought the game yet, then don't. Save your money for SmackDown 2 or any of THQ's other upcoming wrestling titles. Unless you're a die-hard fan of ECW, you'll find little to like in Anarchy Rulz.

ECW Anarchy Rulz is a continuation of Acclaim's butchering of the wrestling genre, and fans are advised to stay far away. If you really like ECW, simply pick up one of the superior titles and create their rosters in the create-a-wrestler modes. That will certainly be more entertaining than having to play this game.

When I think of ECW, I think of fast-paced matches and some wild stunts that give the league its reputation. When I think of Anarchy Rulz, I think of a weird-ass fighting game that just happens to have ECW wrestlers and a ring in it.

WWF Smackdown 2 comes out in a couple of months, and I don't think that's too long to wait for a better PlayStation wrestling game. Am I being to hard on Anarchy Rulz? Perhaps, if you happen to be a follower of the promotion, but I'm not. I'm interested in good gameplay first and good wrestling just after that, neither of which Anarchy Rulz delivers in comparison to WWF Smackdown, Wrestlemania 2000, WCW Revenge, Fire Pro G, Six Man Scramble, Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium, either Giant Gram, and most of the Toukon Retsuden games (except maybe the awful Toukon Retsuden 4). I'd recommend any of those games to a wrestling fan. I'd recommend Anarchy Rulz only to ECW fans, and their reaction might only be to wonder where everything they liked about the promotion has gone.

With surging popularity, ECW doesn't need this. With the WWF moving their national TV station, they need a definite help to get to the top, and this is not the way to get a fan base. A tired game engine, weak graphics, and so-so sounds, this could be Acclaim's most lackluster effort yet. Please Acclaim, end the pain now.

Other reviewers might recommend this game only for hardcore ECW fans, but I believe that is a disservice to the fan. If anyone should avoid this game, it should be the hardcore ECW fan as they will be the most outraged. Anarchy Rulz just does not capture the feel of EC-dub. As a fan of wrestling and a serious gamer, I find myself offended on two fronts. There is no excuse for slapping this outdated engine on game after game. Hell, even Capcom updates the Street Fighter engine every once in a while.

PlayStationGaming Age
For being called Extreme Championship Wrestling, ECW Anarchy Rulz sure isn't very extreme. All that makes this game worth the "M" rating are the few instances where more more "mature" language is used, and blood makes a slight splat on the characters and arena, When it comes right down to it, though, ECW Anarchy Rulz and the word "fun" have nothing in common in each other, and basically any other wrestling title on the market is more worth your time and money that this one. Will Acclaim ever learn? Who knows, but I'll be forced to jump off a cliff if I have to play the same ECW title with a new name six months from now.
