The bottom line is that Sega knew how to make arcade games that were fun, and Jewel Master has all the elements of a great arcade game. It has lots of memorable music, fun levels, lots of enemies, even mini-bosses before the big bosses, and an incredibly challenging final level with an ending that leaves you fulfilled. But there's no getting around the fact that this game is hard. Even though the first levels don't take long to master, the second half will have you coming back again and again. Those who are easily frustrated should take Jewel Master as a chance to build some character, for it will be a game with some great action, and an ending truly earned! Overall, Jewel Master is a solid side-scrolling adventure, although I would have made it just a little bit longer.

Un bon jeu dans le genre, avec de nombreuses options de combat grâce aux anneaux magiques. Indispensable à ceux qui aiment l'ambiance "fantasy".
The controls are crisp, the increasing difficulty rate as you progress is easy (but not too easy) to adjust to, and the creature fights will keep you on your toes. The bottom line is that purchasing Jewel Master will not give you what retailers call "buyer's remorse." You'll be proud to include the game in your collection.

Jewel Master is not one the Genesis' shining stars and should it ever surface on the Virtual Console, I seriously doubt it would garner much attention. Despite the cool ring idea, too much of Jewel Master is tame. The game works entirely within the boundaries for a 16-bit side-scrolling action game. For a much better example of the genre, definitely check out Super Castlevania IV for the SNES.
Power Play (Jan, 1992)
Schon wieder spielerisches Mittelmaß im Fantasy-Gewand: "Jewel Master" ist ein durchaus passables Jump'n'Run mit Actioneinschlag, dem jedoch neuartige Ideen und überraschende Effekte weitgehend abgehen. Nur die Belegung der einzelnen Finger mit magischen Ringen ist neu und sorgt für motivierende Gier nach den kostbaren Geschmeiden. Spielerisch sind die fünf Levels fair ausbalanciert und grafisch gut dargestellt, während der Sound und die träge Musikbegleitung knapp unter dem Durchschnitt bleiben. Ärgerlich und unverständlich find ich jedoch daß fast zwei Jahre nach "Mystic Defender" ähnliche Programme noch weit dahinter zurückbleiben.
Eine insgesamt sicherlich hübsche Idee. Leider wurde sie nicht ebenso umgesetzt. Die Grafiken scheinen eher von „gestern“ zu sein. Die Spielfigur ist recht steif, die Monster (Gegner) etwas einfallslos gestaltet. Ich denke die Kommentare der anderen sprechen für sich: Guido: „Naja.“; Achim: „Das sieht ja öde aus!“; Uli: „Kann man das auch spielen?“
