I have been waiting a long time for this arcade hit to come to a home platform and it finally has. In the Hunt is one of the most innovative shooters I have seen in quite a while. (How many other submarine shooters are there?). This game does not have mind-boggling graphics, but it does have good sound and a lot action. The most impressive thing about In the Hunt is that there is minimal slowdown, even with two-player simultaneous playing. This game is tons of fun.

This early PSone title would have looked at home on the Super Nintendo (that's a good thing), and stands as one of they system's true buried treasures. Those who don't like shooters won't be swayed by its ultra-simple gameplay, but In the hunt is highly recommended for side-scrolling aficionados, obscure game freaks, and Aquaman.

In The Hunt's soundtrack isn't remarkable, but it does call to mind those glorious days when 16-bit ruled. There's just one thing that prevents In The Hunt from achieving greatness, and that's the heinous slow-down that occurs when the action heats up. It's hard to ignore in the single-player mode, and it practically ruins an otherwise terrific two-player simultaneous mode. In The Hunt is a fun game, but it seems like the hardware is struggling to keep up every step of the way.

How pathetic must Imagineer's programmers by if they can't even do decent 2-D on the Saturn? This one has embarrassing slow down, extra loading time and a Genesis quality soundtrack, none which is present in Xing's far superior Playstation version. Still basically a good game but there are far better titles out there.

The graphics aren't great and neither is the sound, but the action is non-stop. The playability is also quite good, with quick response time and those aforementioned several attack angles. A solid shooter, sure to entertain.

Even though the Saturn version retains the look of the original game, it experiences occasional instances of slow-down in certain situations. While that's not a huge problem, it's still distracting at times.

The lineup of Playstation shooters gets a boost with this conversion of Irem's arcade submarine game. The very detailed graphics are supported by audio that's loaded with blasts. The controls are sluggish, but mostly accurate. This sub floats above other Playstation shooters like Galactic Attack and Jupiter Strike.

While it was ignored at the time because of its 2D look, there's no reason you should ignore this classic Sega Saturn game (that is also available on the original PlayStation). If you still can't get over the 2D look, then perhaps you should check out the equally awesome PlayStation 2 sequel, Sub Rebellion. Either way you go, you won't be disappointed with this forgotten franchise.

OK, so the enemy vessels range from the lucrative to the bloody bizarre, but this is prehistoric frenzied action, man! The two-player mode is pretty good if you can tolerate your partner pinching your power ups (which I couldn’t!), but it’s still a age-old format which has been done far better before. If you’ve just beamed down from the far reaches of the galaxy and are therefore unfamiliar with this type of game a good time is sure to be had, if not then perhaps it is best avoided.

Even though 32-bit gaming systems have been on the market for a relatively short time. It's a bit surprising to find that 2-D shooters (once a videogame staple) already have an air of nostalgia about them.

The game's major flaw isn't the graphics. The sheer number of sprites on the screen at any given time can be staggering, but it still looks great. It's that darn sub - it moves way too slow. This, coupled with the lack of originality, is enough to frustrate even the most adamant devotee of shooters. Still, a small number of people enjoyed this in the aracde, and for them, this delivers.

PlayStationAll Game Guide
In keeping with the low standards of this game, the sound is terrible. The music is a confusion of hyper kinetic, nerve-jangling mumbo jumbo, and the sound effects are noisy, grating, and monotone. The box states that this game is akin to an amalgamation of every shooting game. Maybe they meant every bad shooting game. In order to say something nice about this game, those of us who are trigger-happy will certainly get a thumb workout, as the action, cumbersome as it is, never lets up.
