III!

With all its flaws, I must say that I had a blast playing Lost Planet 2. The multiplayer is fun and the campaign is a blast. But if you really want to get the most out of this game, do yourself a favor and grab three of your buddies and go kill some Akrids together. That's where this game really shines. I had a blast playing through this game with friends; even if it was just dying trying to figure out what we were supposed to do.

Im kooperativen Modus ist Lost Planet 2 ein Spielspaß-Monster. Einzelspieler bekommen immerhin gute Action-Kost.

PlayStation 3Playstation Universe (May 07, 2010)
With Lost Planet 2 it's clear that Capcom tried to create a new and enhanced Lost Planet experience by taking everything that was good from the last game and incorporating an absolutely blinding co-op experience. Sadly, it also brings with it some of the bad. Offline fails to impress and the few imperfections add up and lead to a few frustrations along the way. Nevertheless, this is still a game well worth playing. Not only are there plenty of thrills and spills along the way, intense action to enjoy and new Akrid to marvel at, you should get quite a buzz when playing it online with friends and taking on some of the larger beasts.

Lost Planet 2 is an epic game and its one that any fan of multiplayer co-operative action will not want to miss. This game has it all, big weapons, bigger enemies, flying V-Suits, grenade launchers, what’s not to love really? Sure it has a few issues, but once you are into the action chances are you’ll soon let these pass you by.

PlayStation 3Digital Chumps (May 11, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 is better by leaps and bounds from the original. Still, there is room for improvement, especially in a more cohesive storyline. It's better in a lot of areas, but could be even greater. You'll soon forget the campaign mode as quickly as you can, as you'll spend most of your time online with Lost Planet 2. The online play is the big seller, but the campaign/co-op mode isn't far behind. Bigger, better and more satisfying.

PlayStation 3Eurogamer.pt (May 10, 2010)

PlayStation 3Game Critics (May 18, 2010)
My frustration with the customization aside, there's no denying that Lost Planet 2 is an interesting and engaging hybrid title that delivers a new blend between traditional solo play and modern multiplayer expectations. I can't say that the developers totally nailed it, but with solid mechanics, a strong sci-fi theme, exciting action and tons of large-scale watercooler moments, I do recognize it as an experimental step forward that succeeds far more than it fails.

PlayStation 3GamingTrend (2010)
In addition, if the multiplayer part of the game had been flawlessly executed, this might have been forgivable. Unfortunately, some basic gameplay decisions with the way the camera is handled and the way weapons and 'mechs are implemented hold this title back from its full potential.

PlayStation 3Console Monster (May 07, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 is a huge package. It’s challenging, rewarding, frustrating and enjoyable all at the same time. While the game is more hard-core than your average third person action game, it isn’t one to simple ignore. Lost Planet 2 is a serious competitor for the co-op market, especially Left 4 Dead and apart from a few niggling annoyances with connecting to co-op games, Lost Planet 2 is a fantastically deep title that is well worth the time and rewards you will reap from it.

PlayStation 3GamingXP (May 05, 2010)

PlayStation 3Vandal Online (May 06, 2010)

PlayStation 3GameFocus (May 28, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 breaks new ground for the franchise by focusing heavily on co-operative play and cutting back on story. While some fans of the original may be disappointed, there is still plenty of fun to be had. Problems with the plot, damage balancing, and the awkward grappling hook are faults that I can’t ignore though. However, Lost Planet 2’s campaign does offer some unforgettable moments and great teamwork opportunities, provided you find a good group of gamers to play with.

WindowsMeristation (Oct 12, 2010)

Lost Planet 2 is one of those games that work well in trailers, works well on paper, but when you come to actually play it there are just too many annoyances in the game design to really make it a truly great experience. We'll give any game a chance but when you hit that old Deja Vu feeling time and time again, when it fails to grip everyone playing, you know that at the core there's something wrong. Worth a try if you liked the first one, steer clear if you're new to the series or you're looking for a casual shootemup to fill the gaps between the next big things.

WindowsGameSpot (Oct 20, 2010)
In spite of its occasional awkwardness, Lost Planet 2 is a worthy offering for shooter fans who enjoy the awe-inspiring sight of a colossal creature towering above them. It's good to see this game's better elements getting their fair dues, even if some of the other core issues weren't so readily repaired. The gameplay oddities and small online population keep this celestial object from shining too brightly, but if you're interested in shooting big bugs on a resplendent sci-fi world, or just want to show your friends what your fancy new video card is capable of, then Lost Planet 2 is an entertaining way to pass the hours.

Xbox 360GamersHell.com (May 20, 2010)
In short, if Lost Planet 2 was a budget-priced multiplayer-only title, it would be hard not to recommend it; unfortunately it's a full-price game with a seriously flawed single player experience. If you can find four, like-minded buddies, Lost Planet 2's co-op campaign offers some spectacular boss battles and stellar graphics. If you're a lone wolf though, be warned and be prepared: The single-player campaign is a full helping of frustration served with a side order of irksome, albeit with a dollop of shiny graphics on top.

PlayStation 3TotalVideoGames (TVG) (May 14, 2010)
With inspiration from Modern Warfare and Gears of War, Lost Planet 2 delivers action by the bucketload. When you're battling against the biggest bugs the game has to offer, Lost Planet 2 can be a blast particularly with a few friends. It is however a fundamentally frustrating experience, with control issues and questionable design choices that reduces the overall enjoyment the game has to offer.

PlayStation 3Gamereactor (Sweden) (May 06, 2010)

PlayStation 3GamesRadar (May 05, 2010)
Fast, frenetic, and frequently spectacular in scale, Lost Planet 2 will do the job if you have an itchy destruction finger, and provides some fun and well thought-out times in co-op. But ultimately, it's just all about the carnage, and frequently seems to have no care for the needs of the solo player.
70
PlayStation 3videogamer.com (May 06, 2010)
Capcom is either extremely bold and clever or quite foolish. Lost Planet 2 is a game that is hard to recommend to solo gamers, such is the way the game has been designed to be played with friends. It feels like a completely different experience with real players at your side; an experience that betters the original and features some of the most intense, visually stunning battles we've seen on this generation of consoles. Just know what you're getting yourself into. It's hard, frustrating and at times a very unfair.

PlayStation 3Game Over Online (Jun 02, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 is a game with a personality, and like all games that share this trait there are going to be things you love and things you hate. Capcom has taken a chance in hoping you will love more about this game than you’ll hate, and with a ton of mechs, awesome guns, beautiful locations, and a flawed online feature, there’s plenty to love about the game. It’s fun, at times bizarre, and occasionally frustrating as hell, but it does more than a few things really well. Unfortunately its also plagued by some rather serious design flaws that could've been solved if Capcom had taken a look at what the competition was doing. If you can look past that than you'll enjoy this game, but you might have to deal with some frustration along the way.

PlayStation 3IGN UK (May 06, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 is at its best when you're a giant robot fighting other giant robots – in other words, when it's simple. At its core it's a potentially great action game and it's very good-looking, but it explains itself so incredibly poorly and has such an awkward structure and poor checkpointing that a lot of the fun is ruined by interminable frustration – not to mention the fact that it's basically unplayable as a single-player game. It has a few genuine standout moments, especially on the rare occasions that everything works in co-op, but they don't balance out the faults.

WindowsGaming Age (Nov 09, 2010)
If you haven't snapped up Lost Planet 2 in a bargain bin some place for consoles, the PC port has been out and runs like a dream. I'd still wait until it dropped a bit, but if you've got a handful of friends or love yourself some multiplayer, well then there's nothing else quite like it. If this is a game you feel compelled to see through for story, though, well be warned that it may not live up to your expectations.
67
PlayStation 31UP (May 11, 2010)
Lost Planet's sophomore effort attempts to improve on past faults while shifting direction into an entirely new territory, but the overall feeling is muted. The game can be an enjoyable, fun adventure, but only if you're willing to share the experience with friends (or strangers).
67
PlayStation 3Game Revolution (May 11, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 is filled with too much mediocrity to be a great game, but it is decent, and odds are that if you like third-person shooters, you'll at the very least enjoy the multiplayer modes. Just don't expect this to be the phenomenal game changer.
67
PlayStation 3Gaming Age (May 19, 2010)
Still, despite its flaws, I feel like Lost Planet 2 is a game worth playing. I'm sure other's will not love it as much as I do, and I do suggest renting before buying with this one, as I think even original fans of Lost Planet could be off put a bit by some of the changes here. At the same time, if you have either no issue with gaming with random people, or have a dedicated group of co-op friends, I don't think you'll come across a better co-op experience for a third person shooter than this (yes I went there Gears fans), and I'm still looking forward to playing more of the game in the near future. Of course, for the purposes of this review and acknowledging the many flaws the game does possess, I have to give it a score that I feel reflects the overall package, but this is definitely the most fun I've had with a B minus game in a long time.

Xbox 360XboxAchievements (May 06, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 looked so good in the countless screens and trailers, and indeed the promise of slaying massive beasties was an enticing one. Sadly, there are too many uninspired environments and boring humanoid enemies in the game and not nearly enough Akrid. A lack of genuine innovation and the presence of persisting issues from the first game is unforgivable and frankly, we expected more.

PlayStation 3XGN (May 17, 2010)
64
Xbox 360Play.tm (May 13, 2010)
Playing Lost Planet 2 on your own will test your patience so ought to be avoided, but things undoubtedly improve in multiplayer, where the dodgy controls and sluggish movement almost seem forgiveable. Ultimately though, Lost Planet 2 leaves a sour taste in the mouth as an immense disappointment, because it really should have been one of the year's biggest blockbuster action titles, yet it sadly falls some way short.
60
WindowsIGN (Oct 18, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 plays like it was never put in front of a member of its intended audience at some point during its development, someone who might have asked "why?": "Why can't I pause the game unless I make my game unjoinable?" "Why can't I join a co-op game in progress?" "Why can this monster kill me in two hits?" A little "why?" may have taken this game in a different, more compelling direction. If you've burned through other multiplayer or co-op options, then there might be something for you in Lost Planet 2. The single player campaign is lengthy at around 14 hours with full co-op support and the multiplayer has plenty of maps and modes. Just do yourself a favor: buy some insurance for the controller you'll invariably throw across the room at one of Lost Planet 2's seemingly endless design and interface issues.
60
PlayStation 3Gamernode (May 19, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 is a good example of eastern vs. western game design philosophy. It's a game trying to appeal to western audiences as an action-packed online shooter, but gets hung up on typically eastern design choices that clash with its overall goal. Bad game design, technical issues, and a botched character progression system lead to a game that feels like it's trying prevent you from having any of the fun that would be possible with four people playing together, taking out skyscraper-tall bug monsters.

PlayStation 3Gamer.nl (May 11, 2010)
60
PlayStation 3D+PAD Magazine (May 06, 2010)
And yet…it still manages to be strangely endearing – never knowing where you’ll end up next or what bizarre creatures lie in wait proves enough incentive to put up with the many flaws. Leaping into a Vital Suit to empty your machine-guns into anything that moves is absolutely as fun as it should be and dealing the killing blow to bring down one of the monstrous bosses is definitely worth a fist pump or two. Levelling up your character and joining a faction will also no doubt prove to be a hook for many, and we’ve not even mentioned the training mode (reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid’s VR missions). Unfortunately, despite the breadth of features on show, Lost Planet 2 instils a feeling of slight disappointment – disappointment that its ambition often isn’t matched by its execution; that for every one hundred foot long salamander there are a hundred brain-dead machine-gun toting grunts. And that, despite flashes of brilliance, it just isn’t quite the game it could have been.

Almost equally fun and frustrating whether played in co-op or in single-player mode, it's a game you'll both love and hate in the same breath.
60
PlayStation 3Cheat Code Central (2010)
Lost Planet 2 simply doesn't live up to the developer's grandiose plans. Other than the game's beauty, the big, challenging bosses, and the infrequent fun that can be derived from four-player co-op, this is a gaming experience that can easily be passed up. Unless you simply need a four-player co-op shooter to play with friends, you're almost certainly better off going another way.

PlayStation 3Gamereactor (Denmark) (May 06, 2010)

PlayStation 3InsideGamer (May 13, 2010)

PlayStation 3Gamers' Temple, The (2010)
The single player/co-op campaign is pretty much hopeless, and the multiplayer game has its moments but overall is weighed down too much by a number of balance and design issues. Lost Planet 2 is a disappointing sequel, and there are too many other, better options out there to warrant a visit to E.D.N. III.

Xbox 360Level (Jul, 2010)
58
PlayStation 39lives (May 13, 2010)
58
PlayStation 3Game Shark (May 14, 2010)
While the multiplayer does add a little something to package, it’s obvious that the campaign – the true co-op campaign - is where the main focus is. As good as the game looks, and as huge as the bosses are, it’s not all that fun to go through alone. Unless you are planning to play through the campaign with some friends, you may want to think twice.

Lost Planet 2 is a disappointing sequel that is inferior to the original. The controls are poor and confusing, the story is not interesting, and the artificial intelligence is far from intelligent. Outside of the beautiful landscape that you will explore, there’s little to enjoy as you battle the Akrid for T-ENG. The only redeeming quality this game has is the multiplayer experience, but there are far better options out there and you’ll quickly grow tired of it too, even with all of the customization available.

PlayStation 3IGN (May 07, 2010)
Lost Planet 2 plays like it was never put in front of a member of its intended audience at some point during its development, someone who might have asked "why?" Why can't I pause the game unless I make my game unjoinable? Why can't I join a co-op game in progress? Why can this monster kill me in two hits? A little "Why?" may have taken this game in a different, more compelling direction. Unfortunately, for PS3-only owners, it's harder to recommend due to some pronounced technical issues that detract from its biggest selling points. If you've burned through other multiplayer or co-op options, then there might be something for you in Lost Planet 2. The single-player campaign is lengthy at around 14 hours with full co-op support, and the multiplayer has plenty of maps and modes. Just do yourself a favor: buy some insurance for the controller you'll invariably throw across the room at one of Lost Planet 2's seemingly endless design and interface issues.

What really frustrate me with this game is how many different things this game has to offer. You have online coop, online VS mode and the offline story to finish. Sadly all of those cannot be properly enjoyed because of the lethal problems in the game’s engine. Having played the 360 version of the game recently too, I can say that the difference is noticeable without even playing both versions side to side. That is most likely going to be another topic for the console fan boys to fight about. If you really want yourself some Lost Planet 2, go buy it for the 360. The PS3 is unplayable and the game really struggles to keep up with its potential and all the action going on in its world.

PlayStation 3GameSpot (May 07, 2010)
On paper, Lost Planet 2 sounds like it should be the only sci-fi shooter you need. There are full-featured online modes, a good-sized campaign that supports up to four players, and gross alien bugs that demand to be shot. Furthermore, the game is beautiful, generously stuffed with small details and boasting a great cohesive art design that refuses to be overshadowed by the impressive technology that powers it. But all of these important features are wrapped around basic mechanics gone horribly awry. Too many missions are either broken, tedious, or downright frustrating, and basic mechanics are focused on removing control from the player in lieu of providing a legitimate challenge. There should be a sense of triumph when you defeat a gigantic creature after a protracted struggle. In Lost Planet 2, you're just relieved that it's over.

I found Lost Planet 2 simply not worth the effort. There is already a thriving market of infinitely better sci-fi shooters out there like the Gears of War and Halo games and many more on the way. There simply can’t be any place for these kinds of standards when you feature it against the competition its up against. So despite looking good, Lost Planet 2’s primitive control system, simplistic combat and numerous design flaws all combine to crush any enjoyment underfoot and rapidly turn it in to a pitiable, depressing title.

PlayStation 3Mania (Jun 08, 2010)
The bottom line with Lost Planet 2 is that if you enjoy cooperative or multiplayer online play, then its worth at least a rent or two but if you like to fly solo you’ll want to pass on this one.

When it all comes together with four friends coordinating attacks against a tremendous boss, Lost Planet 2 can be an absolute joy. Unfortunately, those moments are few and far between given the hurdles one must jump through to reach that point. So while Capcom made a game which has the potential to be the most fun one can have all year, it's almost a guarantee that very few gamers will ever reach that euphoria. For the most part, this game is little more than a big waste of thermal energy.

Ultimately the various competitive multiplayer modes prove more entertaining than the main co-op mode. None of them are particular unusual in themselves but it's a far more enjoyable way to play around with the otherwise entertaining weaponry. But considering the potential of the idea and how good the game looks it's shocking how comprehensively Capcom have sabotaged their own efforts.

It’s a shame, too, because the game clearly isn’t the product of half-assed design. The level design is short, sharp, and at its best, exciting. The boss battles are tough, but when the controls are cooperating, they can be incredibly satisfying. It’s also undeniably gorgeous, provided your computer can handle it. The problem seems to be a lack of cohesion. There’s simply too much in this game, or at least, enough ideas to turn an unfortunate control scheme into a bad control scheme. Lost Planet 2 may satisfy fans of shooters and Japanese arcade games looking for a hybrid - at its best, it’s a mix of Gears of War and pattern-based action games - but it will probably frustrate them, and it will definitely offend everyone else.

Lost World 2 is a truly wretched shooter that squanders what once seemed like a promising new franchise.
