Magic And Mayhem is, then, a triumph for Mythos. Amid a frightening deluge of real-time strategy games, it comes along to remind us that nothing - nothing - is more important than solid, addictive gameplay. And that, after all, is what it's all about.

Magic & Mayhem is misschien niet het derde meesterwerk op rij van de Gollop Brothers, maar het behoort naar mijn mening toch bij de betere realtime strategische spellen van het jaar.

Итог — классная игра, увлекательная, имеющая свою игровую атмосферу. И, честно говоря, принесшая кое-что новое в застоявшийся жанр RTS. Поиграйте, не пожалеете, она того стоит. Уж во-всяком случае оценку в 8,5 баллов Magic & Mayhem отрабатывает с лихвой.

Magic and Mayhem really shows that magic is where it's at. It's an entertaining game that's not too hard, yet not too easy. It's unique in it's own right and Mythos really needs a pat on the back and VIE needs to go out and market this game better. I will find myself playing this one for some time yet. If you're up for some fireball throwing, troll summoning, hacking and slashing buttkicking fun, give M&M a try!

Magic and Mayhem has a few shortcomings that ultimately prevent it from reaching a lofty classic status. Otherwise it's an excellent game, one of those rare engaging games that offers a fair amount of complexity, but is still easy enough to jump right into - a tribute to the elegant simplicity of the interface design. It is a game that compels you to keep playing until you've finished. Players looking for an original twist to the real time strategy genre should spend their hard-earned mana on this one.

But you'll eventually learn to deal with this system, and while Magic & mayhem has a few other problems - cartoonish graphics, some samey maps, no clear mission objectives, and a few minor bugs - their net effect is minimal compared to the fun to be had. With dozens of hours of single-player action and an incredibly flexible system for creating multi-player games, Magic & Mayhem is not only a recommended purchase, but also a damn good bargain.

So what's the verdict? Magic & Mayhem is a quirky little game that RPG and strategy fans will probably have a lot of fun with for a short period of time. Fortunately, its street price is fairly low (we saw it for $39.99) and it has a multiplayer element that, while not all that impressive, certainly adds a little bit of shelf life to the product. If you have the cash handy, and you've been looking for a game to while away a few hours with, you could certainly do a lot worse.

Der Weg der schwarzen Macht führt an der Grenze zwischen zwei Genres entlang, wobei der Strategie-Part die Seele des Spiels ist – die Rollenspiel-Elemente sollen bloß zusätzlichen Pepp bringen. Gerade dieser Teil bleibt daher blaß. Macht aber nichts, denn die unkomplizierten Zwischendurch-Gefechte gegen üble Magier bringen ziemlich viel Spaß. Insgesamt ein brauchbarer Titel für Fantasy-Strategen, der seine größten Stärken im Multiplayer-Modus ausspielt

Not a blockbuster, by any means. If you don't mind playing a bit of a jerk through levels that are mostly the same, by all means, pick up this game. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a bit of cash to burn and a lot of free time on your hands.

Mana ist schmakhafte Kost mit einer leichtverdaulichen Handlung, gewürzt mit vielen Kampfeinlagen und wenigen Rätseln. Kurz und gut: Rollenspiel light für den kleinen Spielbetrieb zwischendurch. Und als solches macht es auch Spaß.

With more control over your allies, more interesting combat, or just a bit more depth, Magic & Mayhem would have been a better game. But with its numerous problems, it's just a fairly fun single-player game and an only slightly better multiplayer game. The missions are just too repetitive, and the mechanics just too unrefined, to be intriguing for more than a short spell.
