These is so much to discover, so much to see, so many enemies of all shapes and sizes to vanquish with dozens of stunning moves using an array of lethal hand-to-hand weapons, and it's all just so wonderfully satisfying and addictive. Every time you think you're coming close to the final confrontation, yet another new level opens up and you realise you've still got a way to go - the game will last you for a long time and there's extra replay value through extras from repeated play. This really is an action game with the emphasis firmly on action, but it's anything but a button masher - the faint of heart need not apply, even with the reduced difficulty level if you struggle with the very tough default. Still, this is a shining gem of a game that absolutely deserved a revamp and that you simply must try - the way of the ninja might be tough, but it's also one of the greatest gaming experiences you'll ever have.
This game has a strong shot at being game of the year with its seamless balance between story, action, and exploration. Moreover, anyone who owns a PS3 and doesn't buy this game needs to just quit pretending they play good video games, buy a Wii, make a Mii and then punch that Mii repeatedly in the face. You deserve to be beaten one way or the other.
An expanded roster of enemies, razor-sharp graphics and a handful of new weapons also help polish the experience and correct minor niggles with the original game, meaning that even those who’ve played Ninja Gaiden on a rival console will relish retreading old ground.
Fans making the upgrade will be disappointed (maybe) that the new content is locked. Meaning, even if they defeated the game before, they must do it again on Normal to unlock the new missions (a 20-hour prospect). But any adult new to the series will find a lot of stylistic and skill-based ninja violence to sink their teeth into. It's a classic remade, and that's a good thing for the PS3.
The decision to remake the game for the PlayStation 3 was a sound one, since the game's greatest strengths still hold up against anything else available today. While the folks behind Devil May Cry and God of War may want to throw their hats into the ring, a strong case can be made for Ninja Gaiden being the greatest action game ever made. This is easily one of the best games to play on your PlayStation 3, so don't miss out.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma delivers a PlayStation 3 game worthy of any action fan’s growing PS3 library and if you missed it the first time then welcome to one seriously hardcore action game. Sigma might feel the same as the original in certain aspects but the improvements just make this a deeper and far more enjoyable version of what was once an Xbox classic. Really, do yourself a favor and pick this one up right away.
PlayStation 3GamePro (US)
The only reason to miss out on this one is if you've overdosed on the original or Black and just aren't up to the challenge of playing through the game one more time. The new features are definitely welcome but I can see how it'd be stale for experienced vets. Nevertheless, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is the best version released so far and that's saying a lot considering how awesome the other versions were. Now, let's hope Team Ninja is working because I can't wait to play it.
Overall the game has a lot of positives and is one of the best games on the market, certainly the best game available for the PS3. We give it a 9.4 overall and think that gamers and ninjas alike will enjoy it very much.
If you are a Ninja loving PS3 owner or just an action junkie then Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a must own game, it grabs you with it’s stunning gameplay right from the beginning and just doesn’t let go, sure it is very difficult and therefore won’t be instantly accessible to everyone, but if you stick in there and master it you will reap the rewards of what is one of the Playstation 3’s must have games. Highly recommended, enough said.

I think this is pretty much a no-brainer if you own a PS3. If you haven't played the game yet, then all the better. This is the best version by a landslide. Yes, there are problems with the game, and yes, they don't get talked about enough, but the core gameplay is just so amazing, you might not even notice them.
There are very few titles that stand the test of time. We have seen Resident Evil 4 make the transition from the Gamecube to the Wii perfectly, and the same can be said for Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the Playstation 3. A simple port would have been fine, but Tecmo wanted to do the series and title justice but including new content and upgrading the overall experience for a new breed of gamers. Playing as Rachael and being able to fight Doku early within the game are the true turning points of the series transition to the next generation. For those who own Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black and even for those new to the series, this is a title worth owning. SO for those who haven’t picked up the game, hurry up and purchase Tecmo’s hallmark title of 2007.
Though its core gameplay and content is more than three years old, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is just as fun as the original release. Many of the new content additions and tweaks have been added for the betterment of the experience, making this clearly the best of the bunch. The sections with Rachel are reasonable fun, though pale in comparison to what it's like to take Ryu on a decapitation world tour. If you didn't like the first two releases, there's not anything here that'll draw you in. But if you're a big fan of the original, it's worth your time and money to pick up Sigma as the game has never looked better or been so refined. And if you've never played Ninja Gaiden before, you should stand in line for this one.
PlayStation 3Digital Chumps
It must have taken me a solid over twenty or twenty-five hours to complete the original Ninja Gaiden. It’s a long game, but it also proved very tough. Playing through Sigma is on track to take me as long or a bit longer, thanks to the additional content and still challenging enemies and bosses. With all of the enhancements, and given how much time has gone by since I last played it, it feels almost like a fresh game again, so if you’re a fan of the original or of Black, and you’re worried there might not be enough new content here to justify the purchase, I would argue that there definitely is. On the one hand you have the constant enhancement of greatly enhanced visuals, but you also have a lot of newness in the way of Rachel play, the new weapons, and the new enemies.
PlayStation 3Cheat Code Central
Overall, if you buy one Ninja game this year, make it Ninja Gaiden Sigma. I know there's lots to choose from out there, but trust me, this one delivers. It's got satisfying gameplay, wonderful music, and some uber-amazing visuals. And you'll have lots of fun. I can almost guarantee it. If not, then you may be allergic to ninja fun. And that's something to get looked at!
PlayStation 3Daily Game
Ninja Gaiden Sigma includes a few other tweaks, including new items, a couple new weapons and the ability to automatically run on water rather than needing to repeatedly press the jump button. But really, Rachel's segments and the 60-frames-per-second graphics are the most notable updates. These additions may not sound like much, but they definitely make Ninja Gaiden Sigma the one version to own if you've never played the game or are looking for a serious gameplay challenge. It's not often that you see a last-gen game make the leap into the next generation, but with Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Team Ninja has created a game that makes that leap with ease. We can't wait to see the next rabbit they pull from their development hat.
PlayStation 3Worth Playing
If you have a PS3 and never got a chance to play the Xbox Ninja Gaiden, you should go out and buy Ninja Gaiden Sigma right now. It has nearly everything you could want from an action game: highly accurate controls, a plethora of well-designed enemies, smart AI, sharp visuals, a wide assortment of useful and unique weapons, brutally visceral combat, and, of course, ninjas. Veteran players will find there is enough added content to warrant another play-through. Sigma stands as one of the finest action games of all time and is a major reason to own a PS3.
PlayStation 3Gamer 2.0
For those of you who haven’t experienced this title in any of its iterations: now is as good a time as any to get with the program and play the game. You won’t regret it. Though Ninja Gaiden is an excellent game, let’s hope we don’t see a Ninja Gaiden Sigma Black for the Xbox 360. It’s time for a full-on sequel.
PlayStation 3The Next Level
Ninja Gaiden is hard. Just aword of warning to hardcore PlayStation fans new to the Ryu's latest adventure: Ninja Gaiden Sigma will kick your ass. In fact, it will probably kick your ass, revive you and then continue kicking your ass. Upon its initial release for the Xbox, the title was celebrated for its old school, tough-as-nails difficulty. Unless you're a Ninja Dog, the newest (third) iteration of this now classic game is just as hard as it was a few years back. Just as before, though, there is a sick pleasure in that pain. That's what Ninja Gaiden always brings to the table, a joyous sense of accomplishment when you pull off a cool move or reign victorious over a boss you thought you'd never beat. It's enough to make jump out of your chair and fist pump the air like Tiger on a Sunday. All in all it makes me that much more excited for the sequel. A DS title is all well and good, but bring on Gaiden 2 please. And remember to iron out those camera issue when you do.
PlayStation 3Console Obsession
Ninja Gaiden’s well crafted combat system is just as satisfying today as it was back in 2004 and we feel first timers are in for a treat, whilst the hardcore fans of the game will be looking to own the definitive version of one of the finest action games ever made. That it stars a ninja only makes it better, as ninjas are the best!
PlayStation 3GamesAreFun.com (GAF)
In terms of an action game, Ninja Gaiden Sigma delivers in spades. The game requires skill and isn’t afraid to be difficult (especially on the harder difficulties). For every hard-fought battle, there is a feeling of being rewarded just for getting through it intact. For PlayStation 3 owners, this is the game you need to have in your collection. Especially if you’re in that “hardcore” crowd.
PlayStation 3Armchair Empire, The
If you’ve never played Ninja Gaiden before, you definitely need to give this game a chance. If you’ve played through the original and are looking for a reminder of why this game is great, it’s definitely worth picking up. If you’re weak with a controller, and prefer to shoot fish in a barrel then you might want to stay away. This ninja is coming to get you.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is the motherload of Ninja Gaiden content for the PS3. Even for veterans of the series who have already played through the original on the Xbox, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is still worth a look for the improved visuals, extra story, and new content. And if you haven’t played the original Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox, Sigma is a must buy for action fans. The fighting system is as deep as a fighting game, the story is interesting, the babes are hot, and the action is plentiful as well. If you love action games or you’re itching for a good game on the PS3, Sigma is definitely worth a look.
If you’ve played this game before, it’s like revisiting an old friend, and if this is your first time playing a Ninja Gaiden game you are in for the ride of your life. This is what an action game should be: fast, furious, and relentless. If you’ve got a PS3, you’ve got to get this game. Period.
PlayStation 3Jolt (UK)
It’s hard not to recommend Ninja Gaiden Sigma, even if it is just an extremely glorified update of a three year old Xbox game. It might no longer be the best in its field, but it’s still ready and waiting in the shadows, looking for the perfect opportunity to fly in, behead you and take your life orbs while you’re not looking. It’s certainly not the sort of game that everyone will be able to enjoy (older gamers take note), but it’s as refreshingly challenging and fun as it’s always been and has plenty of extras and collectables like new weapons, hairstyles for Rachel, an unlockable Mission Mode and the extra difficulty settings that will bring hardened gamers to painful tears of joy. The third time around, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is better than ever and ready to finally embrace a new generation of gamers, even if they probably have already played it before.
I could sit here and weigh the little middling pros and cons of the game, but the bottom line is that it kicks ass. It might be the third time in as many years that it kicks ass, but it still does it all the same. If you've never played the first two releases, you need to buy this game. If you have but you want to see if the updates are worth it, you need to buy this game and if you don't really know anything about the series yet love action games like Devil May Cry or God of War then you need to buy this game. Basically what I'm saying is it's a must-have. Period.
PlayStation 3PSX Extreme
I expected nothing less from Itagaki and Team Ninja. After all, the developer is known to be one of the few perfectionist studios along the likes of Team Kojima and a select few others. Ninja Gaiden Sigma exemplifies the meaning of an action game, as it offers diversity, depth, and a challenge that rewards you and delivers a sense of accomplishment that not many games can achieve. It's a visually stunning game running at a superb framerate, with super tight action. While the camera can be a nuisance sometimes and the English voice acting isn't fantastic, the sum of Sigma's parts add up to an experience that no action gamer should be without.
PlayStation 3Extreme Gamer
If you're new to Ninja Gaiden, the Playstation 3 version is as good, if not better then the original. This is a safe purchase for anyone who enjoys challenging action games, fast paced battles and drop dead graphics. Prepare for your senses to be overloaded in this ninjutsu epic.
Of course, all of these minor complaints might just be my way of seeking revenge for having to best Alma for a third time. She's one tough broad, but I always find a way to take her down... eventually.
Sigma is a must own for PS3 owners and anyone who likes to have a good bout of action. The fluid nature of the ninja-like movements will have your eyes pop even on a standard definition TV. The gripes I had with the game were so minor but the difficulty is something to consider before you get too crazy for the game. There will be times you will throw the SIXAXIS as a Shuriken to the floor on a number of occasions. Still, diligence will pay off in the end as you ascend the ranks and become a ninja master. This summer, the action is only going to get hotter but Ninja Gaiden Sigma just set a scorching pace.
Returning players will spy other new bits peppered throughout the adventure: Existing levels have been subtly reworked, a handful of new enemies and bosses await, and a handy new quick-select item menu facilitates healing at pivotal junctures. Eagle-eyed Gaiden vets will actually notice a few puzzling omissions, too. Some puzzles, cut-scenes, and unlockables have been axed entirely. And I doubt anyone will cheer the addition of some foolishly tacked-on Sixaxis functionality -- shaking the controller to magnify the power of your ninja magic just feels silly. So even though genuinely new content doesn't exactly abound, Sigma remains such a solid, expansive, challenging, and well-paced thrill ride that you truly won't care.
There's simply a lot of game here, and the fact that this is a retooling of a three-year-old title for a new audience shouldn't dissuade you from playing it. Whether you're a series veteran or a newcomer, the in-your-face action of Ninja Gaiden Sigma is as exhilarating now as it ever was, and the new, slickly embedded content is surprisingly meaty. Play this game.
PlayStation 3IGN Australia
Honestly, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is probably best viewed as a meaty appetiser for the proper next-gen Ninja Gaiden that is almost certainly in development. There are still some camera issues, it's still maddeningly hard, and it won't interest you now if it hasn't already, but we're in love all over again, especially thanks to the chunky dose of new content. And the graphical improvements and gameplay refinements should ensure that old fans are unsheathing their steel all over again alongside newbies dipping their toes into the series. Highly recommended.
PlayStation 3Gamer Within
So overall this is a very good game and would be well worth getting if you are an avid fan of the series or haven’t played any of the previous versions. If you aren’t too persistent of a player or have difficulty with hard games than I suggest you should avoid this game. I can’t really be certain but for anybody looking who has played any of the previous titles from the Xbox I doubt you will find this game worth the purchase having already experienced most of the game. I doubt the extra features and improved graphics would be enough to satisfy yet another purchase of an already familiar game.
PlayStation 3PAL Gaming Network (PALGN)
While it may be the same three year old game at its core and it may end up being surpassed many times over this generation, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is still among the top action games currently available. As far as PS3 games go, Sigma is the unrivaled top game from a rather meager selection (including the above-mentioned atrocity) and if you exclude the original game, there really isn’t much on the Xbox 360 either. The game may have been open to few more changes and it isn’t going to be terribly appealing for those who have already invested heavily in the Xbox games, which is the one major deterrent of an otherwise excellent game. Still, on it’s own, Ninja Gaiden Sigma retains its status as one of the top action games and one that’s there for anyone with the stomach for a real challenge of skill.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a graphically stunning update to a true action classic. The game's fighting system is still one of the best ever in the action genre. If you haven't played Ninja Gaiden until now, buying this version is almost a no-brainer. Even die--hard fans of the previous games will probably feel the urge to try out the new content.
While I never played the original Xbox game or it’s updated cousin for more then a few minutes it was probably for the better as I approached this game with a fresh outlook. What I discovered was a very entertaining action title. It’s pretty tough which for seasoned gamers like myself is a great reminder of how games used to be! Overall Ninja Gaiden Sigma is one of the best games we’ve seen on the PS3 to date, and certainly recommended.
PS VitaGame Chronicles
There is some exclusive content and the PS Vita is certainly capable of bringing console-quality gameplay and presentation to the palm of your hands and the touch controls are interesting additions. Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is a day-one purchase for newcomers to the series who enjoy insane ninja combat, but everyone else can probably wait for a price drop or just hang tight for a proper sequel.
Ninja Gaiden once again makes an amazing showing on another system, too bad the game was cursed with a full retail priced release. What would have been an easy purchase at almost any amount less has become a reward only the most die-hard fan, or dedicated newcomer, will find it worth the price of admission.
Sigma Plus looks gorgeous on the Vita. Silky-smooth animations make the brutal combat captivating, and though the environments look a bit sterile by current standards, solid art design gives the varied regions you explore an exotic sense of history. More importantly, the fast, intense, challenging combat is as exciting as ever. With its lengthy, consistently thrilling campaign and a slew of ninja trials that really put your skills to the test, Sigma Plus certainly gives you your money's worth. Some of the Vita's features are crammed in here in inelegant ways that don't benefit the overall experience, but this is still a fine version of a stellar action game. If you somehow still haven't experienced the excitement of Ninja Gaiden, you should play Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus.
That said, Ninja Gaiden retails for $39.99, and your decision to buy it should heavily depend on whether you've played it before. If you somehow missed the game, it's an action packed sword slashing romp that runs almost flawlessly on Sony's machine. You could even make a case for it being one of Vita's top three launch games. With praise like that, you owe it to yourself to experience this highly regarded title.
If you weren’t crazy about Ninja Gaiden the last three times, this is the same game, so keep walking. Likewise if you already played either Black or Sigma, you’re probably ok to hold off, too. But for those of you that only played the 2004 original, or missed the game entirely, you’ve now got a beefed up, extra content edition that you can play anywhere. That’s worth flipping out and killing dudes over.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a nice addition to the Playstation 3 library. Despite the fact that it is based on a last generation game, and has had its day on a competing console, the additional content that Team Ninja has put into the game, the improved framerate, and the stunning graphics make this a must own for any Ninja Gaiden fan or those who haven’t yet felt the spine tingling power of Ryu’s blade.
PlayStation 3Games TM
Ninja Gaiden is just something that no self-respecting action gamer should be without. That nothing has managed to match its commitment to fierce, uncompromising combat in the last five games is testament to the skill of Itagaki and his team at Tecmo.
There is no doubt that Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a fine example of the action game, but most who will want what is on offer here will have already been tempted by previous editions. Sigma's producers, however, claim that the reason behind another remake of this classic title is to bring it to a new audience, and for that group of gamers, this is a title that, while furiously hard and sporadically blemished, certainly has plenty to offer.
Regardless of the fact that it’s basically a third version of the same title, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a well put together game with an interesting storyline and some inspired settings. The gameplay is rewarding once the techniques are mastered and the action will have your heart-thumping, but the grueling difficulty will deter all but the most dedicated of gamers.
PlayStation 3GameCell UK
Overall, Sigma is an excellent last-gen game that’s been given a facelift. The fighting system is still top notch, just so fast and fluid. A decent sized story with a tough but rewarding difficulty setting - now the PlayStation crowd can finally experience one of Xbox’s finest games.
PlayStation 3Hooked Gamers
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is an exquisite game filled with jaw dropping battles and controller throwing rage. A master Ninja and a smoking hot friend round out the cast of characters in this marvel. Armed to the teeth with shiny authentic Ninja attire as well as some fantasy magic to jazz things up, the developers did a great job of making you feel like a total badass slicing heads off demons and ninja’s alike. With a sizable single player campaign and scoreboards to keep perfectionists coming back for more, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a very rewarding experience that shouldn’t be overlooked.
PlayStation 3Maxim Magazine
In case you failed to play this game back in 2004—way back when TVs only showed black and white pictures, people with handlebar mustaches rode around on bicycles with one giant wheel and one small wheel, and folks said things like "Twenty-three ski-doo!"—Tecmo is giving you yet another chance to play their hard-assed ninja sim.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma, warts and all, demands everyone's attention, particularly PS3 owners that never experienced the Xbox games. It is without question one of the most intense experiences on a console. However, its faults (poor design choices, really) keep it from being triple A.

PlayStation 3Digital Spy
Despite the original being three years old, this release is just as much fun. It’s arguably faster and the added content and tweaks have made it the best in the series. If you like your games fast and hard, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is an action adventure that rarely lets you come up for air and is perfect for those occasions when you want a compelling game that requires little use of the old grey matter.
PlayStation 3Yahoo! Games
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is an excellent, polished game, and those who haven't rocked it on Xbox are urged to put it on the top of their to-buy list. Those who have put it through its paces before have a more difficult decision on their hands. This is no budget-priced update, but rather an expensive, refined piece of software. At the end of the day, though, it's the same meal you've eaten before -- albeit with lots of garnish, a prettier server, and some extra helpings of dessert. Those are all great things if you're hungry, but don't do a whole lot of good if you're already feeling a bit full from Ninja Gaiden's cooking.
PlayStation 3Game Freaks 365
The biggest criticism of Ninja Gaiden Sigma will be its value. Is a last-generation game with almost no added incentive and a full price appealing to the consumer? Truth be told, Ninja Gaiden is a game that can’t be messed up. Team Ninja made a masterpiece for Microsoft’s Xbox. It remains as entertaining as it ever was on Xbox. I would go as far as to say it is one of the best two or three PlayStation 3 games to date, it is just worthless to gamers who have had a chance to play the game before. Without being too harsh, that really goes to show you the stressful state of life the PlayStation 3 is in. If developers are going to regurgitate their last-generation efforts, we need more incentives. Ninja Gaiden fans could fairly raise my final score by a full point, but I can't promise that sort of experience to the typical gamer. Ninja Gaiden Sigma just isn't enough for its price.

At the end of the day Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is a fairly good game, plain and simple. There is a lot to test one’s skill, and the game plays pretty darn well on the PS Vita. With solid graphics, good sound, and some very intense and addictive gameplay, the only area that this game suffers is that the camera can be a ‘pain in the ass’ causing you to lose focus, and the touch screen feature should have an off option and as an accidental touch can end up in disaster. Regardless, new fans will find a lot fun here, while returning fans may just enjoy a walk down memory lane with a portable version of a title they played over four years ago on a home console. At the end of the day I don’t have any issue recommending this game as a possible purchase with your PS Vita, especially if you are looking for some fast paced arcade action to test your gaming might.
For those that have played previous versions and liked it, this will of course appeal. There have been a few tweaks to enemies, weapons, scenarios et al, but if you have played the Black version it will all seem pretty familiar. If you love spending time learning each area until you are a true master and revel in the satisfaction gained from such achievements then this game is also for you. For the more casual gamers that like challenges but nothing that lasts too long, approach at your own risk. This is a good game, unquestionably, but I want more and have come to expect more, it is as simple as that.

On the other hand, Sigma Plus gives newcomers full access to all of the content that veterans have had with the original game, and also offers increased replay value through the Ninja Missions. Nonetheless, not a lot has changed, and some functions prove to be very irritating. Team Ninja classed this game up a little bit, but it didn't fix many of the previous problems that the other port did have, and it added a few more adapting functions to the PS Vita hardware. Regardless, it’s still a competent and clean port, and it's definitely something that long-time veterans would want to have on their PS Vitas.

If you've never played Ninja Gaiden before and want a great game for your Vita at launch, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus would be a solid choice. Just take my advice and skip Hero mode. If you've already played Sigma or Black, you're not missing much with this latest re-release outside of the new Trials mode.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is still a competent and in many ways, impressive, action extravaganza. The gameplay and combat hold up well over time, but the technical aspects don’t, and those same problems still exist, which is disappointing. If you’ve played Sigma or Sigma 2, I’m not sure there’s any reason to pick this one up. If not, however, and you’re looking for a super fast and extremely challenging hack ‘n slash title for your new Vita, you probably can’t go wrong with Sigma Plus. You just have to allow for an older production that has a few lingering issues.

There are plenty of weapons, skills, and armor to find throughout the world, perfect to power up your personal Ryu and search for the sword his clan was charged with protecting. When you get down to it, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is the same game that was released a few years back, and if you need that on the go, this is the best way to fill the need. Or, if you need something pretty that can beat you up (like a hot MMA fighter), this will do the trick.

And while we're curious as to why Team Ninja chose to port Sigma rather than the more recent Sigma 2, after taking another look at the Vita's impressive launch line-up, it's easy to shortlist Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus as one of the most compelling purchases on the fledgling system - if you haven't had to contend with the wandering hands of Spectral Doku before. But even if you have gone the full distance with Ryu Hayabusa, this is one shinobi saga that's worth reliving.
One of the oldest games to be revamped for the PS Vita’s launch, but still an impressive, if frustratingly difficult, third person actioner.
PS VitaGame Informer Magazine
Other than a couple Vita-specific features, an easier difficulty level, and a collection of trial missions, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus doesn’t offer anything new. If you loved the original game enough to play through its numerous updates, then you may enjoy taking this new version on the go. However, action fans accustomed to the polished games of this generation may become frustrated with the eight year-old mechanics.

Starting into the second half of 2007 there are many, many games on the horizon with a number, subtitle, or year emblazoned after the main title. As a result, it is obvious most developers and publishers are much happier to play it safe, and release a sequel, rather than go out on the limb and innovate. However, what could be considered worse than this is when you already have a base storyline, level layout and design and instead just continue to wrap it in ever increasing layers of texture and vivid colour and then stick a RRP that is £10 more than what the original cost 3 years ago. It is in fact more insulting than year after year of new Fifas, Tony Hawks or Need for Speeds, albeit being an insult wrapped up in a very nice package.
Dommage.

What we will say, though, is that the changes and additions do make it a better game and, as such, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is unarguably the best version of the game to date. For some, that might be all you'll need to know, but for the rest of us merely looking for a blockbuster game to see us through the barren PS3 summer, we'd strongly suggest you try before you buy, because it's by no means the best the genre has to offer any more.
PS VitaGaming Age
It’s a really solid port, but lacks any bells and whistles to attract folks who might not be die-hard fans of the series. It’s definitely worth checking out, but keep in mind that you’re getting the same content here that was contained in Sigma on PS3 nearly five years ago.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is a good port of a once great game. Returning fans will doubtlessly fall back in love with the combat, but will be dismayed with how poorly the rest of the package has aged.
It’s difficult to say exactly who should buy this game. Many of the flaws of Sigma Plus would go unnoticed by a first-time player and they would end up playing a stellar game. But to recommend this particular version over the full Sigma experience on PS3 in 60fps and HD, or even the purist option of Ninja Gaiden Black on Xbox Originals, would be a disservice to the series. Fans will enjoy Sigma Plus even less than a first timer will, but with some adjustment could eventually appreciate its portability. Either way, nobody should be paying full price for Sigma Plus, so the bottom line is wait for a price cut or rent it. After this lacklustre release and the very poorly received third game, the fall from grace for the series is saddening.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus laat gemengde gevoelens achter.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is what happens when a classic is ported too often.

I’m willing to believe that, at one point, Ninja Gaiden was an amazing feat of video game design. But considering all of the action-adventure games that have come and gone in the years since this game made its first appearance, I find it hard to believe that other first-time ninjas will have a good time with this game. There are so many aspects of this game to which I can say “if only”… if only the camera worked right, if only the controls were tighter, if only there were more to do than find keys and kill the same dudes over and over again. But the game is what it is, and the bad seems to outweigh the good at every turn. Simply put, it doesn’t seem like you can teach an old ninja new tricks.
PS VitaPlayStation Lifestyle
The actual meat and potatoes of the game also feels dated, but much less so than the save system or horrid camera. There are still hours of great gaming to be had with Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. And the combat still reigns supreme as some of the best, if not the best, in the action genre. A skillful mix of guarding, dashing, jumps and well-timed attacks are necessary for success. But unfortunately, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is far too much Ninja Gaiden Sigma and not enough Plus, and it just doesn’t fly all these years later. Only purists will truly appreciate what’s in-store. Simply put, there are better games to spend your money on at the Vita’s launch, to the point where I don’t at all feel comfortable recommending this game. If anything, you’d be better suited to buy the 2007 PS3 release, which is probably under $20 in the bargain bin.

Maybe someday down the road there will be a patch that fixes every complaint I have with this game (or at least most of them—now that they're in there, I doubt the Rachel missions are ever going away), but that's a slim hope at best. Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is a game that tries to reel in nostalgic fans while accommodating new players, succeeding at neither.
