When the dust clears and the zombies are no more, Hunter the Reckoning: Wayward is much like the original. The gameplay is solid, as is the enjoyment. The game does get a bit repetitive, however (even more so if you've already played through the town of Ashcroft on Xbox). If you're into melee combat, then you may want to at least rent Wayward, bring a friend over, and kick some living dead ass. There's just somehow a lot of enjoyment out of racking up hundreds of kills in each mission you partake.
Hunter: The Reckoning Wayward is a worthy title in the Hunter series and a great introduction for the franchise on the PS2. Despite a few technical glitches like framerate and sound, Wayward is a solid and satisfying action game whether you are playing alone or in cooperative two-player mode.
The Reckoning Wayward is a great holdover for returning fans of the series before the Xbox sequel Redeemer hits stores later next month. But newbies shouldn't worry either; there's enough here to satisfy them as well. Give it a try and let the Reckoning begin!

Best played with a friend, Hunter The Reckoning: Wayward is a must buy for ps2 owners that need to get their fix of blasting away at the undead with an itchy trigger finger.
The game isn't bad, but a few extra enhancements would have added so much to this game. It's disappointing to have a game that shows so much promise, and yet could have been so much more. If the wait for Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 is too long, then at least rent this title.
The Dual Shock crowd might have felt slighted when the original Hunter: The Reckoning shipped for everyone but them, but it looks like their trip to Ashcroft might have been worth the wait. Hunter: The Reckoning Wayward is a huge improvement over its predecessor. Being surrounded by a pack of creatures that want to tear the flesh from your bones doesn't get much better than this.
Overall, I think this can be a fun but addictive arcade shooter, and with a horror theme, easy controls, and guns galore, it will not be overlooked. With not many other competitors in the genre of ultra-fast massive monster slaying, this game deserves at least a weekend rental.
In the end, Hunter: The Reckoning Wayward is a good game, if you intend to play it with a friend. As a solo endeavor, Wayward is on the dull side of things. If you're interested in action, without too many adventure strings attached, Wayward is worth taking a look at, but it's also a short enough game that you could easily get by with a rental instead.
And yet, despite the list of flaws, I had a good time with Hunter: The Reckoning—Wayward. While I certainly find myself wishing the developers would fix the problems with the game and incorporate more of the pen-and-paper game's RPG elements, it's still a game that I look back on with more fond memories than bad ones. In this regard, the game truly is a guilty pleasure of mine, and so the critical side of my brain will just have to live with it.
Between levels, you get bits of information and some tips on how to defeat the different monsters. You can also see the game’s various movie clips again, but this isn’t really very exciting. What is quite exciting, however, is playing this one with a buddy. You can play cooperatively, but even though this is fun it doesn’t really make Hunter: The Reckoning - Wayward a very good game.
Wayward blir snabbt monotont.
