Description official description

Dingo Egret is minding his own business, investigating a hidden power source Metatron, when out of the blue his mining team is ambushed by BAHRAM. He discovers that the source of the Metatron is actually an abandoned battle robot, Jehuty (seen in the original Zone of the Enders), and decides to use the machine against BAHRAM.

Dingo soon realises that there's more to the story than simply wanting to own a powerful machine, as treachery and evil power comes into play. It's up to you to control the Jehuty and fight BAHRAM .

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner is a sequel to Zone of the Enders. Like its predecessor, it is an action game that concentrates on piloting the giant mecha Jehuty (walking or hovering in the air), engaging in battles against other robots, using his energy sword and secondary weapons and techniques. Unlike the first game, there is no "world map" to travel on; the player is taken to the next stage automatically. Jehuty can upgrade his abilities by destroying enemies and gathering experience. Sub-weapons are acquired after having successfully eliminated a boss enemy. The game also allows the player to participate in a battle against a friend in a two-player battle mode, or try out the special VR training missions.

One Mecha Game You Don't Wanna Miss!

The Good
Mecha. Gigantic bipedal walking tanks armed with all shapes and sizes of exotic weaponry. Who doesn't want to hop into one of those?

Mecha games are hugely popular for a reason: they give you the power-trip that one can only get from riding in a giant walking tank capable of wiping out an entire city (or two).

The original Zone of the Enders sold primarily not because it was a fantastic example of a mecha game, but mostly because it came packaged with a demo for Metal Gear Solid 2.

However, Zone of the Enders 2: The Second Runner game packaged with only one disc: the actual game. Would it sell without Metal Gear Solid attached to it?

Who cares? Anyone who owns a PS2 and hasn't tried this game is missing out on an example of truly great gaming.

Where to begin? Graphics-wise, this game is drop-dead GORGEOUS. Rather than go for the semi-realistic look of the first game, Konami decided to use cel-shading (you know, to really give it that anime feel) which, in practice, makes the whole game look amazing, with neat weather effects, explosions, and lasers.

Gameplay is a little different, however, from most mecha games. Rather than shuffle around in a lumbering, slow, heavy battlemech, you instead get the lithe, acrobatic form of Jehuty, capable of soaring thru the air to do battle with equally adept enemies. In fact, its possible to go thru the entire game and not touch the ground once.

Weaponry in this game is a little different too. Rather than wield autocannons and missle launchers, you are instead armed with a sword (for getting up close and personal) and a laser gun. It doesn't stop there though, as you also have access to even neater weapons in the form of charge attacks, such as being able to lock onto every enemy on the screen and then unleashing a torrent of homing lasers to slice them in half or, even cooler, charging up a gigantic ball of energy and then spiking it towards the enemy, watching as it smashes them to atoms!

If you tire of lasing your enemies, then you can also grab objects right out of the environment (such as steel girders or wall panels) and beat them senseless with those!

And what of the sounds accompanying these vicious attacks? Well worry not, they all sound suitably destructive. The music as well isn't the typical heavy metal fair that accompanies most mecha games, but is rather a more orchastreal sound which really sucks you into the game.

The Bad
Now the bad...

Well, there are three big problems:

First, the length of the game: You could, given enough time, complete the whole shebang in an afternoon.

Secondly, the voice acting. While most of it is top-notch, there are two or three characters who either overact or underact their parts, or come across as simply annoying.

Lastly, another low point is the story: You play as a former soldier turned ice miner who discovers a giant Orbital Frame (the game's word for mechs) buried in the ice for no readily apparent reason and then BAHRAM (main antagonizing force and the supplier of all the giant mechs you'll be beating the stuffing out of) attacks the ice mines at exactly the same time so you, ever the resourceful one, hop in the OF and decide to bring it on. And then... well... Yeah, that's about the whole thing.

However, the REAL lowest point is that of the main character's name: Dingo. Egret.

The Bottom Line
Basically, if you're looking for a fun, exciting mecha game for your PS2, look no farther!

A Great Story but too short and easy!

The Good
This game has one of the most beautiful and touching mech-based storyline I've ever seen in a console game. The beautiful anime scenes are simply stunning and beautiful and the characters are well developed. I won't tell the plot because my english is poor and I don't want to waste the beauty of the events that succeed in this game, but believe me, this game has kick ass plot and if you love mech epic sagas, this is the game for you. The gameplay is what me and my friends like to call "Fast and Furious". No time to think, no time for strategy, just push the Attack button and beat them all. As a fan of Strategy RPG games, this kind of gameplay didn't hit me so much, but at the end of the day, when you come back home and you just want to relax, this game is perfect! Sometimes you just don't want to sit and start to learn thousands of menus and which is the better combination of classes to beat the boss. Sometimes you just want to take the pad and have the freedom to do whatever you want. If you played Grand Theft Auto 3 or Vice City you know what I mean. Surely ZOE 2nd Runner doesn't offer the freedom of action of GTA 3 or Vice City, but you can destory almost anything you come across and that's what relax means to me sometimes! And if you're the type of gamers who just wants to follow the storyline without being stopped by impossible bosses, this is another reason to buy this game!

The Bad
Even if I said that sometimes is good to play something that is fast and furious, It's also true that when you pay 60 euros for a game you would like that that game would last more than just a week. I beated this game in just one week, playing just one hour a day and to tell the truth, not all the days of the week. I'm not an high-level gamer, so if I beated this in less 6 hours or less, I can imagine that many gamers could beat it in just 2 hours! The gameplay is fast, but sometimes its high-speed action is confusing, and it seems you're not driving your mech but it's the mech that is letting you watch what it's doing. But the worst thing of this game is that it doesn't offer a view from the inside of the mech and in my opinion, the most fascinating thing about a mech based game is the feeling of being inside of the mech having your radar and your buttons ready to be pushed in front of your eyes! But it can't happen by a third person view!

The Bottom Line
Great storyline, fast and furious gameplay but too much confusing and too much easy!
