Description
Ardania has seen many great kings that fought unspeakable evil and managed to bring real peace. Sadly, this also meant for the last king that he didn't have anything to fight and would never be able to be remembered as a hero. To prevent that from happening, he summoned all the great wizards in the country to search in hell for a worthy adversary - and boy did he get one. The most powerful demon the land has ever seen emerges from the portal, kills the king and takes over the throne himself. So much for creating a legacy. Now it's up to the player to finish the job and bring peace to Ardania once more.
As it's predecessor
Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim, the game is a real-time-strategy game set in a fantasy world but with a twist. While the player still builds and upgrades his base as well as his units including warriors, wizards and rangers - he can't control them directly. Instead the heroes bought in the guilds have a mind of their own and don't even think about doing something without a proper reward. So if the player wants to take out an enemy castle, he needs to plant an attack-flag on the target and put a bounty on it starting at 100 gold. Once the objective has been completed by one or more heroes, they get the money and give it back to the player - but not directly. Instead the player builds a market or a smithery in his base and researches items for the heroes to buy like a better sword or a healing potion. In addition a normal tax payed by all the other people living in town as well as caravans coming from trading outpost fill the player's treasury.
But the player isn't completely damned to only build his base, plant flags and watch the outcome. Besides researching upgrades for his heroes, he can also research spells in the several different guild-buildings including a healing spell (cleric guild) or an instant tax collection spell (rogue guild) for himself. Once researched, it can be used at any time for a small fee. The heroes themselves also get stronger and stronger as they kill enemies, earn experience points and advance in level. Has the player successfully completed a mission, he can then promote one of his heroes, who is still alive, to Lord. This allows the player to summon the same unit in future missions - but for a high price. On the other hand just like PCs in role-playing games, the heroes expect higher and higher rewards as they level up before they even think about doing a quest.
