Some may say the Mechwarrior Titanium Trilogy is an attempt to polish a game that was near-perfect to begin with. Others will cynically call it a marketing gimmick to squeeze some extra dollars out of the punters until Heavy Gear II arrives. Granted, there are no new missions, weapons, 'mechs, or in fact, anything at all, but the graphical enhancements and Win95 support justify the re-release.
Gameplay remains the same, no surprises there. In Mechwarrior 2 and Ghost Bear's Legacy you become part of a clan and fight for honor, while in Mercenaries you fight for cash and pay for your 'mech's upgrades. NetMech and MercNet capabilities are also included, multiplayer games are supported via modem, serial, IPX LAN, or TCP/IP Internet connection. If you have never played any of the Mechwarrior 2 games before, this is a golden opportunity to get yourself a ton of gameplay in a single package. Bottom Line: Improved graphics via hardware acceleration supports many 3Dfx and Rendition cards natively, and others via Direct3D. The textures, fog, haze, and especially the dazzling skies look fantastic. Over 170 missions will definitely keep you busy for some time. The three games contained in the pack are separately installable. Huge hard drive requirements.
