Miner Wars 2081

Miner Wars 2081 is a 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) first-person action game with movement similar to games such as Descent and gameplay elements similar to Freelancer. The player takes control of a mining ship in the year 2081. Ten years before all planetary objects in the solar system were destroyed. Only 120,000 humans remain and they are located in different mining colonies that were previously established. Different factions now fight for survival and to continue the human race with their faction at the top of the food chain.

The game takes place in an open world environment with a voxel engine that allows for destructible terrain. The single-player part consists of 31 missions where the player fights along with other AI-controlled miners to complete different objectives. While taking out enemies and performing missions, various resources need to be taken into account. There is a limited amount of fuel, oxygen and ammunition and these need to be restocked through purchases, trading or by looting. Money is gathered through harvesting. The HUD shows the location of resources and minerals such as silver, magnesium, helium etc. that can be harvested, but sometimes the precise location needs to be opened up through drilling. The ship can access an inventory for deep customization, based on various types of items, weapons at the front, back and under the wings, armor, engine, drill and harvester devices and others.

The missions introduce various types of gameplay, such as base defense, exploration, mining, racing, rescue, stealth, theft and more. Solar flares occur regularly and force the player to seek cover. Often the player needs to locate devices such as generators or operate cameras to scout the surroundings. Other game elements include deploying drones, using holograms, flares, mines and bombs, and hacking. There are both smaller indoor and very large outdoor environments in space.

Multiplayer is available for up to sixteen players online, with pure deathmatch, survival and cooperative matches. Multiplayer also offers a full sandbox mode. The game includes a deep editor and an additional 2.5D top-down multiplayer mode similar to the developer's initial game Miner Wars Arena.
