Description

Year 20XX. Lake Turkana, Kenya. A group of scientists discover a mysterious monolith called Zohar.

Year 4767 T.C. - Transcend Christ, or 7277 A.D, according to the old year-counting system. Zohar is no mystery any more. All space ships are Zohar-powered. The humanity has left the planet Earth, which is now called Lost Jerusalem, long time ago, and founded a huge empire on 30000 planets. However, a hostile alien race called "Gnosis" is hunting after Zohar. Anti-Gnosis Weapon Systems ("eggs") do not seem to be enough to stop Gnosis. The Vector Corporation decides to develop an android called "Kosmos", which will be the ultimate weapon against the Gnosis. Shion Uzuki is a 22-year-old engineer chairing this project.

"Xenosaga" is not a sequel, but a prequel to "Xenogears". Its evens take place 10000 years before "Xenogears", and it is planned to be the first episode in a long series where "Xenogears" is actually the last one. "Der Wille zur Macht" is one of the central aspects of Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophy, meaning "The will to power".

The battle system is not unlike the one used in "Xenogears" (combo attacks, AP and EP gauges, etc.), but random encounters are eliminated. Instead, the enemies are now visible and battles can be avoided. The Anti-Gnosis Weapon Systems is a mix between "Xenogeras'" gear battles and monster summons used in Final fantasy games.

Trivia

Got about $200 to burn? For that cash, you can pick up a Special Edition Box of Xenosaga, which comes with the game on two DVDs (with different artwork on the discs), an artbook, a keychain, a portfolio, and a cold-cast statue of KOS-MOS (which looks with beautiful and awesome at the same time!).
