Inside Piranha Games

There's something about the West Coast that seems to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit. A smorgasbord of cultures. Young population. A great setting for work and play. Distance from the central bureaucratic mindset. And the willingness to do things differently.

Piranha Games Inc. was founded in January 2000 by Russ Bullock (programmer) and Bryan Ekman (artist), two Vancouverites who first created a 'perfect' company in their minds, and then set about to build it -- right down to details, including enviable corporate alliances, the pick of the best employees in the business, an impressive launch product that went national from the outset, pet piranhas named Belch and Burp, and a rooftop hot tub overlooking the incredible harbour and cityscape of Vancouver, Canada.

Dedicated to designing and developing next generation games, Piranha spent its first eight months developing content for a prototype game. This led to a deal with Fox Interactive to develop a retail version of the concept - the successful Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza. It marked a well-received product launch for Fox and Sierra Interactive, and a solid launch for Piranha Games as an emerging business worthy of note by those who first caught wind of the new company at E3 Expo in 2001.

Today, with Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza under its belt, and currently working on several exciting new projects, Piranha Games has grown into a top rate development house. Plans for the future? Like any good aquarist knows - you don't put too many piranhas in a tank. The Company intends to heed this advice and strategically develop winning titles that offer opportunities for personal creativity and financial success.
