OverviewPyro Studios was set up in 1996 to create games for PC and game consoles. After just two years, they released their first title, called Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. The strategy game has become a best-seller in numerous countries around the world, selling over 900,000 copies worldwide in just six months. It is the first product created in Spain that has reached this kind of success.
In March 1999 Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty was released and has sold in excess of 350,000 units. Whilst being a mission pack it included extra commando abilities and enhanced graphics. Together with the sequels Men of Courage, Destination Berlin and Strike Force, the Commandos series has sold more than five million copies worldwide.
Another successful game was Imperial Glory, a strategy game released in 2005 based on the conflicts between the greatest empires at the beginning of the 19th century. It immediately went on to number 1 in Spain and number 2 in the United Kingdom PC sales charts.
At one point, the company had a staff of more than 150, including programmers, graphic designers, musicians and designers. However in 2008 it was forced to cancel the game Cops and lay off 30 employees. After the release of Planet 51: The Game, the company focused exclusively on casual games. In 2012, Pyro Studios merged with Play Wireless to become a new entity called Pyro Mobile.
