Most underrated and overlooked racing game ever.

The Good
The almost unlimited ways in which you can customise your car, from new engine parts, new exhaust, rims and body parts.

The Bad
The handling is a bit weird, but you get used to it.

The Bottom Line
Best way to describe TXR is it's a cross between GT3 and NFS: Underground. It has the adrenalin rush of racing on highways and dodging traffic at insane speeds, and it allows for a level of upgrading and fine tuning which can only be found in one other game, GT3. The whole point of the game is, you buy a car, hit the highways of Tokyo, race opponents, win cash, and upgrade your car. You do this until you have beaten all 400 opponents. It's a great concept as it's the only game where there are no "Start" or "Finish" lines. You start a race by coming behind an opponent, and signal to start the race by flashing your high beam light on them. Once the race starts, on the top of the screen, a life bar (similar to fighting game i.e. Street Fighter) appears. The race ends when one person's life bar depletes. TXR is a great game, and it is a pity that is such an overlooked and overshadowed game. It has the longevity and the customisation of GT3, and the adrenalin rush of NFS: Underground. Hopefully the newly released TXR3 will bring in some new players into the world of Tokyo Xtreme Racer.
