Preferred Over the Original

The Good
Bright, colorful graphics.

Two skill levels ("Merely Aggressive" and "Downright Nasty")

Bonus round between levels is a fun challenge - you hit the saucer which then shrinks and races to the other side. Each hit makes the saucer get smaller and is worth more points.

Every round you see a row of a new type of alien at the top, always 6 rows total. Thus, every two rounds the type of alien at the bottom row is completely replaced. The new aliens that appear are progressively smaller, and thus more difficult to hit, adding an interesting skill challenge

The Bad
Lack of options compared to other variants, such as on the Atari 2600.

No two-player mode (the machine could easily handle standard two-player play as well as simultaneous cooperative and competitive).

The Bottom Line
Space Invaders with a few innovations that make gameplay somewhat less repetitive than the original. Uses the TI's graphics and sound well.
