The Shell: Part I - Inferno

The Shell: Part I - Inferno is the English localization of Kara no Shōjo: Full Voice HD Size Edition, an updated version of the Japanese adult psychological mystery visual novel Kara no Shojo. The new features of this release include higher resolution graphics (increasing the screen size from 800x600 to 1280x720), voice acting for the protagonist Reiji Tokisaka (now played by Waruta Higeuchi), and new English and Chinese translations from teams different than those which worked on MangaGamer's English release of Kara no Shojo.

The player takes on the role of Reiji Tokisaka, a private detective in Tokyo in 1956. When young women start disappearing only to reappear as corpses with their wombs torn out, Reiji is tasked by an old friend and former co-worker, Kyoko Uozumi, to investigate the case. As Reiji delves deeper into the mystery, the bodies continue to pile up, resembling a string of similar murders six years prior - and at the center of it all is an enigmatic girl named Toko Kuchiki who asks Reiji to find her "true self".

The game is primarily a Japanese-style adventure game in which the player can investigate crime scenes by searching for evidence, along with visual novel-esque sequences in which the player can advance the plot by talking to certain characters and making decisions which may determine the outcome of the story. The game contains explicit sexual content which was edited out of the Steam release.
