Super fun to play, great control, challenging, tons of options!

The Good
The John Madden Football series built its reputation during the 16-bit gaming era and quickly became a fixture in most collections. Madden '95 for the Sega Genesis is one of the best sports simulations for the 16-bit system, and possibly beyond. With top-notch play control, real teams with statistics, tons of plays to choose from, just the right AI and game speed, and bells and whistles to boot, this game will keep football fans cheering and coming back for more for a long time.

The Bad
The graphics may be considered bland by some and could have been spruced up a bit but when you really get into the game (contemplating strategy, time management, etc.) you barely notice it. That's the only negative that I can think of.

The Bottom Line
A fun football simulation for any fan of the sport. Whether you play against the computer or a buddy (or with up to four of your buddies!), it will be a fun time.

Simple to play: choose your Teams (a team-profiles poster is included with statistics for each player and a key offensive and defensive play for each team), select a Formation, and then select a Play (from among many running and passing plays). You can execute an audible at the line of scrimmage if you want to challenge the formation the defense selected (which you select before the game starts or anytime between plays). Snap the ball and execute the play as best you can.

It takes a little practice but when you get the hang of running the ball after the quarterback hands it off or trying to complete a pass, you'll feel like a pro yourself! On defense, it's a bit of a thrill to deflect the opposing teams passes, stuff their running plays, prevent a touchdown when they have a 1st and Goal situation, cause fumbles (try to recover the ball for your team), and intercept passes (sometimes running the ball back for a touchdown!).

The control of your players is excellent, the overall speed of the game, and the Artificial Intelligence (AI) are all probably the best of the series. Madden '95 is a true gem in the sports world for the Sega Genesis!
