The Good
Captain Planet and the Planeteers entertained kids with science fiction adventure and lessons about multiculturalism, biodiversity, environmentalism, youth gangs, compassion, prejudice and the AIDS-HIV pandemic. While the series was not without its faults, it had all the makings of a great video game.
The Bad
Captain Planet, the multicultural Planeteers and their hi-tech, flying space ship are all crippled by amazingly poor control mechanics and a high frequency of instant death. The game's graphics, music and sound effects are bland and otherwise uninspiring
The Bottom Line
Captain Planet and the Planeteers was part of a trend in the late 1980's - 1990s to insert an educational component to the cartoons that kids watched. The series had the heroes, villains and storyline to make a great video game, but somewhere along the way someone decided to forget about quality in the hopes that the franchise would sell the game to unsuspecting consumers.
