Later Licensing

When Microsoft closed the ACES Studio in 2009, Lockheed Martin licensed the source code and has continued to develop the simulator, releasing updated versions under the name 'Prepar3d' (P3D) - not intended for gaming/entertainment, but available with Professional, Developer and Academic licensing - the latter applicable for self-education purposes, just as the original title. Existing add-ons for FS-X are not guaranteed to work in P3D but many add-on developers have released conversion tools to make their products compatible.

Online servers

The game's online servers which were hosted on GameSpy were shut down on 5 December 2012.
