A dream that should have been...

The Good
Yes, Faery Tale Adventure II: Halls of the Dead, the long awaited sequel to the legendary Faery Tale Adventure... After first playing Ultima VII: The Black Gate, I was amazed... never have I played such a game, such a game that took my breath away, that captured me entirely, I needed more. My quest for the Ultima VII clone was concluded with one game, Halls of the Dead. Halls of the Dead offers a great deal of freedom, such freedom is rarely found in today's games. You can walk around the vast world, do whatever you like in no perticular order, you have your map, no time limit, and you go wherever you please. There are alot of interesting books to read, a few side quests you can acomplish, secret places to find and lots of spells to learn and practice. The game plot is quite nice, and the game itself is a long one, it should take a week or two if good fun gaming to finish.

The Bad
The bad... The game isnt a bad game, its just not finished. The Dreamer's Guild were in a hurry, they were on the verge of a breakdown, and went out of business a short time after the game was released. The game was not supposed to be released at the time, and alot of things were left unfinished, half done. The dialogues in the game are useless and meanning-less, after a while you realise that all the people say the same things, nothing important can be learned from them, and you start ignoring them completly. The side quests were never finished... you can find side quests items all over the world, items with no aperant use because the quests never got finished... whole parts of the map were removed due to lack of time.

The Bottom Line
So what have we left after all the unfortunate cutdowns? We have a good game none the less, as fun as they get, with an interesting story, long gameplay, and lots of freedom. But I'll always wonder... what could and should have been.
