The Steam version's online service was migrated from Games for Windows Live to Steamworks in a beta branch on 27 June 2014, and then fully on 4 September 2014. Retail serial codes can be redeemed on Steam.

• The dreadnought character Davian Thule was introduced in the game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade, where he was the main character of the Space Marine campaign.
• The character of Gabriel Angelos (who leads the reinforcements and assists the player in the final battle) was the main character of the campaign in Dawn of War.
• The second leader of the Black Legion, Eliphas the Inheritor, was leading the Chaos Space Marines of the Word Bearer legion on Kronus, during the game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade. He was slain there by the hand of a demon prince.
