At least twenty different states invited Brøderbund to develop state-centric versions of the Carmen Sandiego franchise, but this prototype product was the only one they attempted.

Developer Craig Nansen writes:

The other states contacted Brøderbund after the release of the North Dakota version but were turned down, mainly because of the lost revenue due to taking their production team away from more lucrative projects.

Sales

~5000 copies were sold, primarily to North Dakotan schools, about the only place anyone might have had an opportunity to experience this game.
