Super Mario World: Super Mario Bros. 4 - A Timeless Masterpiece

The Good
Engaging and well-balanced gameplay mechanics. Vibrant and meticulously designed levels offering diverse challenges. Introduction of innovative power-ups like the Cape Feather and Yoshi. Nostalgic charm with colorful graphics and memorable characters.

The Bad
Limited multiplayer options compared to later Mario titles. Some players might find certain levels overly challenging.

The Bottom Line
Super Mario World: Super Mario Bros. 4 remains a timeless masterpiece in gaming history. With its exceptional level design, engaging gameplay, and nostalgic charm, it's an absolute must-play for gamers of all ages. Despite minor drawbacks, its enduring appeal secures its position as a classic 2D platformer, earning it a well-deserved spot in the hall of fame.

One of the best platform games ever.

The Good
Nintendo has always had the skill to produce games that are just so good that you have to keep playing. I have played Super Mario World through 5 times in the last 5 years. OK, nowadays it goes by the memory, but it never lets me down.

Like most Super Mario games, the Super Mario World includes cute graphics and sound effects, a soundtrack that you could listen all the time and a playability that is as close to perfect as it can get. You can control Mario completely with the controller.

With all that good, you could at least have bad level design in the game. But no. SMB has over 90 different levels to play and that's a lot. It takes close to a week to play the game through for the first time. The skill levels are brilliant. It's always challenging enough to keep you from playing the game straight through, but still easy enough so that you won't get frustrated.

Another revolutionary thing is that you can keep playing the game after you have played it through. There might even be new secret levels that you haven't found yet. I happened to find a new route in my last time. I was amazed.

And then there's also the fact that you can play this game no matter how old you are. I've seen a four year old playing this game from start to finish. I've also seen an 80 year old granny playing this game. It doesn't matter. The game doesn't any violence in it, which is a very nice exception in today's world with GTA's and Carmageddons.

The Bad
Well, you could say it's too addictive... But that isn't a bad thing in my scale.

The Bottom Line
OK, the game is old. It's pure luck if you happen to hit a SNES today with the game. I have tried the emulator version of the game, and it's OK, but not as good as the original. You just can't get the feeling with a keyboard or the zillion-button gamepad you have with PC. Nor with the 15-19 inch monitor.

But if you don't mind the old(but it's still very cute and funny, it's really not THAT old) graphics, this is the ultimate run & jump game for everyone around.

A great game - possibly the best Mario Game ever!

The Good
Hmm... where to begin? To start, it had the best graphics of it's time. It has excellent music and good controls. There are 96 levels, some are hidden, some are Castle's, Fortresses or Haunted Houses. You get power-ups suck as the Mushroom, Fire flower and Magic Cape. There are lots of new and exciting enemies. Each castle is unique in it's own way and has a cool boss at the end. Each fortress has just as many enemies and traps at the castles and each has 4 Reznior's at the end. There is usually one ghost house in each of the 7 world's, and the ghost houses are usually trickier than the normal levels. You also get to ride on Yoshi and there are different colors of Yoshi that have different specialties. What can I say, great game. If you think it's to easy just try doing it with no power-up's (I completed the whole game this way - no Yoshi, either).

The Bad
Well, the game's great but there are definitely things to add here. One thing is if you play a lot you get to good and it's to easy. But the main thing I don't like about it is okay, you beat Iggy, then Morton, then Lemmy, then Ludwig and it's all cool. Then Roy is exactly the same as Morton. Should he be harder, though? Like maybe it takes 5 jumps to destroy him and he throws punches at you or something? Then Wendy's the same as Lemmy and then Larry, the last boss besides Bowser, is the same as Lemmy, the first boss! Larry should be much harder, though, since he's near the end and Lemmy was way back at the beginning!

The Bottom Line
Go get it and play it. It's fun.

The king of platforms is back!

The Good
Lively graphics; Simple platform gameplay made unique; Very good, varied music; Just pure and simple fun!

The Bad
Some may find it too childish.

The Bottom Line
Ahh, good old Mario. He's back with a game that proves yet again that Mario just keeps getting better. It has all the quality gameplay of the first three in the series, plus more. The graphics are really unique and have taken a huge step forward due to the 16-bit power of the SNES. They're lively, humorous and just fit the game perfectly. For those who aren't familiar with the series, the gameplay, like with its predecessors, is the typical platform gameplay, involving koopas, and all kinds of strange creatures who just can't stop hunting you. The gameplay is very very polished and always feels very unique in every way. Let's not forget the music. Ranging from the happy, up-lifting forest tunes, to the dark and chilly haunted house melody, it just never fails to amuse you. Unless you think anything with too bright colors should only played by children, this is one game you'll just love, no matter what your age.

A great Mario game.

The Good
Where to begin, where to begin. We all know and love the Mario games. Super Mario World is no exception. This was the best Mario game for SNES and one of the best ever. The new 16-bit graphics gave the game a better look and feel. The gameplay was also improved and the game runs much better than the NES versions, which ran quite well also. Once again, Bowser is taking over the world or something and you have to stop him. There are many new enemies introduced into this game. The levels look better and so does the sound and graphics. Everything that could have been improved from Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES), was. There are move things that Mario can do and more challenging levels. The game overall is harder, but more fun. This was the first game I owned for the SNES and it's one of my favorites. The unique star system is also fun. I like trying to collect 100 starts to play the mini games. I don't know why, but I just do. Also, I like that you can hold another power-up so that when you lose your own, you can get another almost immediately. Plus you can save your game or restart in the middle of a level if you die while playing it after the checkpoint. This game is definitely a classic and a must buy for anyone who has a SNES.

The Bad
Well, obviously there are things wrong with every game. Super Mario World didn't have to many. There was the occasional glitch, which reminds me of the time I was at the last level and got stuck in the wall. After I restarted the game, my game data was lost. I almost screamed. Anyway, I think that the graphics could have been a little better, like in Donkey Kong Country. There were many games that had 32-bit style graphics. This game wasn't one of them. Overall though, there wasn't too much wrong with the game, though it did lack the feature to save at any time, and not just preset locations.

The Bottom Line
Super Mario World is a great game. I takes an old classic and adds a new twist. Everything was upgraded to look better and play better. The game involves many new ideas and innovations. As the game progresses, not only does it include new ideas, but it also becomes harder and harder. In the original Super Mario Bros, the game didn't really get harder until world 6-2, but hey, that's just me. Anyway, I would recommend this game to anybody who owns a SNES and likes Mario.

Premium Mario

The Good
Super Mario World was made in a day when games were still fun. When they weren't such a serious, joyless business. The reign of Splinter Cell and Resident Evil has taken hold, but in 1990 Nintendo was cranking out gems on a yearly basis, and Super Mario World stands as perhaps the finest of the bunch.

I am not going to tell you specifically what I liked about this game -- we all know this game well enough. It's about kinematic action, about precision, about daring, about adventure.

The Bad
The only issue with this game is that it set such a high standard for platformers than no developer has been able to match it since.

The Bottom Line
Super Mario World is the absolute epitome of what makes a great game. Colorful, thrilling, spellbinding. Arguably the greatest console game ever released, though Final Fantasy IV, Street Fighter II, and Super Mario Kart were equally satisfying follow-ups for the SNES, over the 1991-1992 period.

The best platform game ever

The Good
I am not even going to bother describing this game, as far as platform games are concerned, this is as good as it gets. but just for the hell of it; basically the goal is to jump and run through several different worlds, each containing a number of levels, to reach the final castle and rescue the princess, just like all other Mario games. What sets this apart is the fact that there can be several different exits from the levels, and these are not always easy to find. And to add to that, Mario not only has a new ability (the cape) to use, he also gets the aid of the Yoshis, friendly dinosaurs that use their powers to help Mario on his quest. The level design is perfect, or as close to perfect as you can get, and everything else just shines. The controls, the graphics and the music are, in my opinion, perfect. There just isn't any game that beats Super Mario World, not now, not ever.this is simply the best platform game ever, and the best 16-bit game ever.

The Bad
There is nothing wrong with this game. everything is great.

The Bottom Line
This is the ultimate platform game. There is nothing wrong with this game. If you are looking for the best of the best and you've missed this game somehow, do not hesitate, this is as good as it gets.

The greatest game in this universe.

The Good
There are games, board games, sport games and video games. Now, video games, tell me what you say when you think of video games. You say: "...Super Mario World.".

When Super Mario Bros. was unleashed in 1985, it took the world by storm. When Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) was unleashed in 1988, it was okay, but still took USA by storm. When Super Mario Bros. 3 was unleashed in the same year, it was loved from the start. When Super Mario World was released, that was when the world stood still.

Super Mario World was released in 1991 to positive reviews and critical acclaim. Nice graphics, great gameplay and lovely music. Replay value is served as good as an Italian chef serving Pizza.

There is nothing you should hate about this game.

Hey, after all, it's Mario.

The Bad
Nothing. Just one word. Nothing. Okay, two words.

The Bottom Line
The Bottom Line??? Buy this game off Ebay or something. Now. Or if you already have it, get it out of your 80 year old plant, and SLAM it into the cartridge slot.

You won't regret it. It's not too late before it sinks into the depths of time.

Nice game! But it's overrated.

The Good
Super Mario world for the SNES is a good game, it's fun to play has lots of power-ups, lots of levels but it's overrated. There are some who say it's the best game ever made and the best platformer ever- but trust me it's not THAT good. It's nowhere near as good as people say it is, but it's still fun. Just believe me, this is the honest truth. Anyway, here's what is good about the game:

Loads of level and secrets to find! This gives the game lots of replay value. It's also quite well presented, with nice music and nice sprites. There are loads of enemies to fight, some of which are actually quite funny and the bosses are wonderfully inventive. This is Yoshi's first game, and while his presence does little to enhance the gameplay, it's good to have a new form of power-up. The game also invents various new things for the Mario series (like spin jumps, Yoshi, reserve items and secret worlds) which really helped to make the games after this good. And the gameplay is rather good if you compare it to the previous titles which were occasionally rather unbalanced. All these things mixed in with great level designs, clever puzzles and fun mini games make for a GOOD (not great) platformer. (It's better than Cheetahmen 2, the worst ever platformer ever devised)

The Bad
Most of the reviews of this game say that it's utterly perfect- but that isn't true at all. Yeah it is good and all that but it's far from perfect. Super Mario world is probably the most overrated game of all time to be honest. (The most underrated game ever is Cheetahmen 2, which got horrible reviews that weren't bad enough for it)

For starters, the controls on the SNES joy-pad are terrible. They are so bad they lead to various frustrating deaths and power-up losses. And while the idea of having roughly 100 levels is nice, a little bit more time could have been put in to the secret levels. Some (But not all) are rather badly designed which shows that the design team were running out of ideas. One level has you just smashing an endless array of bricks to reach an low down exit. One is just a single screen, with a floor made of grab blocks and a lakitu in the sky. The exit is actually on screen as soon as you begin the stage. There are also lots of pointless blocks, like jumping blocks (which are pointless because Jumping boards do exactly the same) and bonus blocks (which are just plain useless). There are also message blocks (that give you tips) which are a real waste of time because it tells you all you need to know in the instruction booklet. The ending is also annoying because you've just battled your way through a huge game and all you get is a boring credits screen and screens that tell what the enemies are called. BUT IT'S STILL FUN TO PLAY!!!

The Bottom Line
Overrated! But a very good game. Fun to play, interesting ideas and great power-ups. However, the game falls short when it comes down to secret level designs, poor controls and various pointless ideas. Only recommended to proper Mario fans or people who want a long and challenging SNES game. The remake for GBA is far better.
