A classic that reignited my passion for the console R.P.G.

The Good
Id like to start by saying that this is one of the best R.P.G s I've ever played. I had given up on the genre about 4 years ago after being a fan for around 5 years. I was staying at a relatives for a month and he had a load of SNES games on his laptop i had a browse and saw Super Mario R.P.G. so i thought ill just see what like as id never heard of it. After 10 minutes i was completely hooked its simple yet challenging gameplay had got me and i got that same feeling i thought id lost when i gave up on the genre.

Anyway enough about that what i enjoyed about this game was the humour some things the NPCs come out with had me giggling and it never takes itself to seriously so would be perfect for someone wanting to try out the genre without getting overloaded with story and battle systems like with Final Fantasy and the like. The music also adds to the charm of it. The other thing that i enjoyed was that to do special attacks you have to do a combination on the D-Pad like a 360 d pad spin or hammer button to fill up a meter for extra attack, this also applies to normal attacks where hitting the button at the right time is crucial in survival but also livens it up so your not just doing the same one button attack.

The Bad
It could have probably lasted a bit longer but 30+ hours is still good in my book. Some more hardcore R.P.G. players could see it as a bit too simple and cute.

The Bottom Line
If your thinking of trying the R.P.G. genre i would definitely give this game a go first and if you already like the genre give it a go as there is still loads of fun to be had playing

A fantastic, lush game with little room for improvement

The Good
Mario RPG begins like most classic Mario games, however when a giant new threat comes crashing through Bowser's castle, things will soon take a dramatic turn.

Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is abnormally beautiful for the SNES. Graphically it is nearly outmatched. Also with a sound track with the help of none other than Nobuo Uematsu the game sounds as pretty as it looks.

This game is none other than Final Fantasy + Mario = Excelence. Mario RPG is a must have for any old school RPG fan.

The Bad
The games weakest point is the story line. It is enough to get by, but really the story is NOT what keeps fans playing. Normally a game with a week story would never get a ranking half this high, however, Mario RPG does everything else so well that the slightly week story is overshadowed.

The Bottom Line
Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars is a must have, beautiful, musically wonderful game. Though its story is not as grand as it could be, it is still a true masterpiece of its era.

My favorite game on the Super Nintendo

The Good
I really like how Nintendo and Square made an RPG with the Mario franchise. This game got me interested since it isn't an average platformer like some other Mario games. This game actually puts you in an adventure finding characters, doing some cool mini games, and confronting bosses that anyone has never seen in any other Mario game, except for the common ones in the other games like Goombas or Koopa Troopas.

The Bad
This is the only game the character Geno is in. Toad and Luigi are not playable characters but should've been. They didn't allow more characters to be with Mario and the gang like in different RPG's.

The Bottom Line
A Mario game worth playing. If you loved Final Fantasy 3, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, or Chrono Trigger, you'll love Super Mario RPG.

The first RPG I beat is also my favorite!

The Good
This game is brilliant. Whoever came up with the idea to do an RPG based on Mario and Co. was a genius. And while that may be a cliche, this game manages to make cliches charming and funny all over again.

Easily the best thing about this game is it's humor. Mario is typically silent, expressing himself only in facial animations and jumps...yes, by "jumping." There are a decent number of characters, and it is one of the few games that let you control Bowser as a playable character on your team.

The story, while your typical roleplaying tale, is really well done even if not Final Fantasy caliber, and the Mario setting works perfectly for it. As an RPG, the game manages to not only emulate the classic control scheme well, but even introduces some new gameplay mechanics that add to the experience. Instead of summoning monsters, you can do suped up versions of typical Mario moves, like Fireballs and Super Jumps. It is even possible with one of the moves to continue it indefinitely, if you are skilled...

The Bad
This game is near perfect. I'm sure some can knock it for not having a mature, world ending story, or characters that seem to live on for eternity even though they died...basically, it's not Final Fantasy. But what you do get is a very enjoyable Mario adventure.

The Bottom Line
Mario's best game on the Super Nintendo. While Paper Mario may be a quasi-sequel to this game, this is still hands down the best and the one Mario game everyone should play at least once.

Now if only Nintendo would release it for GBA...

The best "Super Mario" game I've played

The Good
It had amazing graphics and sound. The story was very humorous and thrilling. The battles were challenging, especially the boss battles. I enjoyed each setting. There were many hidden treats, such as Link, Samus, Yoshi, the Lazy Shell, a casino, Yoshi's Island, and a battle in another dimension against Culex. You could fight as Bowser, Princess Toadstool, Geno, or Mallow along with Mario. There were enemies from almost every other Mario game. The game had many RPG elements, such as level-ups, many items, the ability to use three different characters in battle, many special attacks, and strange characters.

The Bad
It would have been better if you could use all five characters in battle. You have to control Mario outside of battle; it would have been better to control other characters. Some boss battles could be frustrating.

The Bottom Line
The first and best Mario RPG. A great adventure. One of the classics.

Square and Nintendo a dream team

The Good
In 1996 this masterpiece came out for the SNES. Their are many surprises in the game and interesting characters and places(such as Booster and Geno). The game is not too long and it's also user friendly. Their are side quests to do in the game to give it some replay value. Another aspect of the game that shines is the music. The limited number of items you can carry and some bosses make the game challenging at some points so it won't be too easy.

The Bad
That the game eventually ends. The list of your special attacks can be bigger and no Luigi!(except that he leads the parade in the game ending).

The Bottom Line
A dream team (Nintendo and Square) made a masterpiece on the SNES.

Great RPG for Snes

The Good
It's great. The goodness of the Final Fantasy games and Chrono Trigger except with a "timed-hits" feature and a Mario theme. I played this game in 3rd grade - I loved it. I played this game not too long ago - I loved it.

The Bad
Not much at all. I don't even think there was anything I didn't like. It took me awhile in Jonny's Pirate ship but that's just part of the Role-Playing genre.

The Bottom Line
Up there with the other great Squaresoft games, I recommend this game to all you that read this. You WON'T be disappointed! >_<

Why does it seem like just because sqaure made a game means it's good?

The Good
This game starts out good with familiar characters like Mario, Bowser, Princess Toadstool, and Toad, but pretty much everything else stinks.

The Bad
The game’s opening scene is overblown with a fight with Bowser as you’re falling from a chandelier why is it that squaresoft loves things in games where people still fight even though they are in immense peril.

The game’s party members are stupid the only familiar character who joins is Bowser, Luigi doesn’t even appear whatsoever and one of Bowser’s moves belief it or not is to throw Mario corny, yes.

The humor which is very funny in good Mario RPG’s like Paper Mario and Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door (Fear My Accounting!) and Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga (I have Fury!) there is barely any cause square takes things too damn serious!

The Bottom Line
All and all if you want a Mario RPG play Paper Mario for the N64 or Mario and Luigi for the GBA or Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door for the GC.
