Description

A Colour Clown Comes to Town is an activity CD-ROM based on the original picture book by Jane Belk Moncure. It consists of five activities.* Animated Storybook: read the story in an interactive manner. Children can also record their own story with up to four people reading.

  • Cleanup Game: Laura asks the child a colour, and he/she has to choose the object which matches what she says.

  • Mixing Room: mix different colours together, or follow Laura’s instructions.

  • Squirt Room: match up the colours with an object.

  • Paint Room: draw pictures and print creations, or use the characters from the story using a collection of stickers included in the program.

Also included on the CD-ROM are Out-Of-Computer Activities, which can be printed for more fun, such as a colour bingo game.

An excellent children's computer game with some repeats!

The Good
As I mentioned in another DiAMAR Title, It offers that same quality they have compared to the Edmark games. The game appeals some colourful animated graphics for the young children, and I just think the Magic Castle Readers books inspire the CD-ROM very nicely. As far as I can tell, Colour Clown teaches kids about colours (which I am reviewing right now), and in my previous DiAMAR review (Dragon in a Wagon), both titles had made a lot of effort with the interactive storybook which is an important part of their Magic Castle Readers CD-ROMs.

The Bad
As I said before, the activities are too repetitive. If the kids only have two to four hours of play, they might get bored and say "Yeah, I know everything already!". Just Because CD-ROMs contain 700 MB of Data, they tried to keep it small to about 100 MB just because of production costs.

Remember in my LEGO Friends review from January 2016 where some of the sections were a bunch of repeats? Colour Clown does the same thing!

The Bottom Line
Colour Clown is a great children's computer game for preschoolers learning basic colour names, however, there were a bunch of repeats that make the game a little bit annoying for some. I would still give this five stars just because of it's amazing quality, but it's amazing to see how good the Magic Castle Readers series inspire the CD-ROMs so well.

I definitely recommend this title to any young child who wants to have fun with colours, and this is a must have!
