Groove Coaster 2: Original Style
Description official description
Groove Coaster 2: Original Style is a rhythm/music game and the sequel to Groove Coaster. The follow-up was originally only released on iOS as Groove Caster Zero, as a new free-to-play and updated version based on the original commercial game. In July 2015 it was updated and renamed Groove Coaster 2: Original Style and also debuted on Android.
The basic gameplay is identical to the original game. It consists of different music tracks where the player guides the avatar, an icon, along a single path in a 3-dimensional environment with vector graphics. The path is not straight and often zigs and swirls. Tied to the rhythm of the music, icons appear that require the player to interact by tapping, holding, double tapping and holding, swiping and swiping and holding and other variations. Visual elements help the player decide what type of interaction needs to be done. Some of these double-finger mechanics are taken from the arcade versions of the game, which are based on the original iOS game. There is some leeway that influences the score, but by keeping the rhythm and not missing anything, a combo chain is built up. After a chain of 10 combos 'fever' is activated for double points and after a chain of 100 'trance' quadruples them. These icons have another layer of accompaniment tied to them, and if a mistake is made, part of the accompaniment is cut out. The goal is to complete tracks with as high a score as possible. Each input command is rewarded as 'great', 'cool' or 'good', filling a groove gauge near the top of the screen. Missing interactions depletes it. To a complete a track at least 70% of the gauge needs to be filled when the end is reached.
The game contains all the tracks of the original version as well as some new ones. Additional tracks are unlocked and can also be purchased for real money. Owners of the original iOS version who have that game installed unlock exclusive tracks when this new version detects it. The game has a basic mode where three difficulty levels for each track can be played and unlocked: Easy, Normal and Hard. In the new arcade mode, available for some tracks, there are three, harder arcade difficulty levels on top of the existing three: AC-Easy, AC-Normal, and AC-Hard. By completing tracks and missions experience is gained to level up, unlocking new avatars, tracks and visual effects. The game also includes items which can be unlocked or bought are chosen before starting a game. Follow changes 'miss' results to 'good', Flick Change turns flicks into tap targets, Visible displays ad-lib timing hints, Mirror flips the screen horizontally, Just turns everything but 'great' interactions into 'miss', Stealth makes targets invisible, No Way hides the avatar's path, Hidden slows make targets disappear as they close in and Sudden only reveals targets when they are close. Ad-libs are hidden targets matching the music that the player needs to uncover for bonus points without any clues, unless the Visible power-up is used.
The July 2015 update introduces Original Style to the game as an alternative control input. Instead of regular touch inputs, the device's microphone can be used to clap, players can hit items or sing to match the targets, no longer requiring physical interaction with the device to play tracks.
