Description

Dexter: Hidden Darkness is a hidden object and puzzle game based on the US TV series Dexter. Players control Dexter Morgan while working for the Miami Metro Police Department and also during his secret life as a serial killer. The game consists of different cases all over Miami split up into multiple events. Most of the scenes are hidden object sequences where a number of objects need to be found in a busy, static environment, sometimes also with a time limit. Some of these objects are clues used in small puzzle sequences. In the puzzle sections Dexter needs to identify parts of an image or move items around to locate something particular. Between sequences the storyline, connecting the sequences, is furthered through conversations with suspects, his father and colleagues such as Debra Morgan, Vince Masuka and Angel Batista. There is a limited amount of in-game hints (through boosters) and certain objects are highlighted when waiting for some time. By tapping and holding a word at the bottom of the screen, a preview is generated slowly to help locate it. It is also possible to zoom in by pinching.

The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases, advertisements and an energy/stamina system. Actions, such as starting a new part of the case, require stars. These are based on reaching a certain score and multiple stars can be earned per sequence, which encourages the player to go through them again with a new selection of words for the hidden object scenes. Points also contribute to a global level represented as an amount of playing cards. In hidden object scenes without a time limit, finding them fast is rewarded with score multipliers, which makes it quicker to earn a star. Starting or re-playing a scene, regardless of stars, consumes energy what regenerates slowly. Energy is earned by completing sections, through items as in-app purchases or by reaching a new level. Social connections through Facebook are also encouraged for VIP points and additional energy. Friends can provide in-game boosters and these can also be purchased separately through money as an in-game currency earned by completing events. There are global quests and rewards for logging in daily. After any in-app purchase all advertisements are removed permanently.
