Basic Math

Description official description

Basic Math is a math game for children.

Each game gives the player a set of ten basic math problems (i.e. simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division) to solve. The player is presented with two numbers and a function, then inputs the answer by cycling through numbers with the joystick. A timer option is available to ramp up the difficulty. The game has eight primary game settings - basically two settings for each mathematical function. Games 1-4 allow the player to select one of the numbers the player will be working with, while 5-8 give random questions.

Hint: For division problems that have a remainder make sure to put a space between the whole number and the remainder, which goes to the right.

The title says it all: basic!

The Good
It's an alternative to what you may find in school books.

The Bad
I still wonder what's good about the game. It merely offers basic math problems. Too simple for someone older than 10 and too boring for someone younger than 10. It feels too much like extra homework. It crude graphical design does nothing to keep a child's attention. Maybe with a funny face for a good answer, or a flower, or a happy puppy, would have done the trick. But a silly little tune did not.

The Bottom Line
The idea was honorable but the result was dismal. I didn't like it then, and I doubt that kids would like it now.

Effectively Perfect

The Good
It's basic math as the title says, it's basic math. you solve basic math, you pop it in, you do math, it works, simple! its not trying to act like something its not like with math grand prix, its just basic math, if you want to do basic math on your atari 2600 or compatable system this is absolutely perfect for you.

The Bad
the alternate title "Fun with numbers" might not be an accurate description depending on who you ask

The Bottom Line
some games are masterpieces, some games are colossal failures, some are big, some are small, some make you happy, some make you sad, some games work properly, some dont, Basic Math promises Basic Math, and you can always rely on it for that. 10/10

Like Using Your First Grader's Flash Cards

The Good
One could presumably practice very basic math with this program.

The Bad
Nothing much fun about this one - just answering very basic math questions. The graphics are merely numbers and math functions. The sound is nothing more than a series of beeps and two short melodies. If you, like me, can handle more than very simple calculations, the game quickly loses its challenge and fun.

The Bottom Line
The program gives you two numbers and a function. You use the controller to input the answer. A short medley plays. After 10 questions, the computer lets you know how many of 10 you got correct. This is basic math without any of the bells and whistles (well maybe one whistle).
