If you're an RPG fan you might find this a little lightweight, but for those of you that turn pale at the thought of indulging in a role playing adventure, this should serve as a gentle introduction to the genre. Regardless of your stance you'd have to be pretty sad and shambling not to enjoy this game. It represents one of the finest VC games yet seen and deserves to downloaded.

A true adventure game masterpiece int he same vein as Zelda and Landstalker. Everything...well, nearly everything (the music was actually just good...Yuzo must be going deaf) was handled perfectly, from the intricate puzzles to the fantastic artwork and special effects. An absolute must-buy for any RPG or adventure game fan.

The Story of Thor / Beyond Oasis is one of the best Action/RPGs available for the Genesis next to Landstalker, Crusader of Centy / Soleil, and Light Crusader. If the game was twice as long, I'd rank it as the best one among them. The 16 bit Sega console certainly has no shortage of great RPGs.

This is definitely a jewel of the Genesis treasury but unfortunately it isn't super common, so don't expect to find it at your average garage sale. It may require a little hunting and cash, but unless you hate RPGs, it is well worth it. If you buy it, you've found yourself a priceless nugget buried in the sands of time...

Despite it's relatively short length and lack of replay value, I loved Beyond Oasis. It's not really a rare game any more than typical Genesis fare (Streets of Rage, Sonic The Hedgehog) are, so pick it up while there's still copies lying around. The Saturn prequel is probably harder to find.

Although Disney beat Sega to the punch when it came to heroes named Ali in the entertainment industry (Aladdin and Ali are close enough, and later in the movie, they did call him prince Ali), Sega did produce a nice little cartridge-shaped package of Arabian joy called Beyond Oasis, starring that lovable and blond warrior Ali. Although this game doesn't have many similarities to the movie, I did find it to be an interesting little pile of programming, and here's my review.

Magic, swordplay, big bosses, great graphics...what more could a gamer ask for? Beyond Oasis has it all. This new title from Sega is one of the most enjoyable games released this year.

It's its stylishness that makes Beyond Oasis a hit. It's not a timeless classic, and it could have used a bit more polish in several areas, but it is a solid representation of 16-bit era action-RPGs. Does Beyond Oasis deserve to be mentioned alongside such classics as Secret of Mana? Sure! Check it out, genre fans, you'll be surprised.

The different gameplay aspects create a nice mix, but beginning and intermediate players will easily finish the game and be left wondering what's beyond Oasis. And the game has way too little true role playing to interest serious fans. It's an ideal game, though, for players who want a taste of RPG or beginners who aren't ready for a heavy-duty quest.

It's not a timeless classic, and it could have used a bit more polish in several areas. But it is a solid representation of 16-bit era action RPGs. Does Beyond Oasis deserve to be mentioned alongside such classics as Secret of Mana? Assuredly so. And since a lot of Nintendo-only gamers would have missed this one back in the '90s, it also appeals as a hidden gem that those players can unearth for the first time here on the Virtual Console. Check it out, genre fans. You'll be surprised.

Beyond Oasis is a Zelda-type RPG with the main character loaded with attacks (although the crunch/jumping technique takes a little getting used to). This one is pretty enjoyable (you should use a six-button controller with this one) with the standard fare of menacing enemies and creative boss characters. The best elements is probably the gigantic are you cover and the plot twists throughout the game. For those looking for a good action/RPG, this is one to check out.

But in the end, it looks great, packs a high level of challenge and it sure occupied my time painlessly enough. To get this review in under the wire, I had to play it straight for a long stretch - which usually leaves me testy and bored. In this case, I kept wanting to go back. Get the picture?

Overall, Beyond Oasis was a nice title when it was released at the end of 1994 and provided gamers with a type of Action/Adventure RPG they had not yet seen on the Genesis console. Its use of elements and their interactivity with the world provided a new twist that made up the bulk of the game's experience. Because the game fails to include a compelling narrative that drives the action, Beyond Oasis remains a title that is ultimately style with no substance. As the years go by and graphics continually improve, style-dominated games that lack depth will be forgotten, while the titles that properly synergize the two areas will remain as thestaples for all to play. It's sad to say, but save your money. Beyond Oasis is just another title.

Beyond Oasis moves along at a brisk pace. There's not much backtracking, the map always points you to the next objective, and some events will whisk you to the next region of the island without forcing you to walk there. As a result, the game doesn't have many dull moments. However, because you don't have to waste time exploring, the quest doesn't take very long to complete. Your first time through may take about eight hours, and subsequent plays will require half that. The game provides four slots for saves and ranks your best times. In 1994, its $50 price tag might have been hard to swallow given the quest's brief length. Now that the game costs 800 Wii points ($8) from the Wii's Virtual Console shop, the price seems about right. You probably won't mind forking over the cash if you've been looking for a game like The Legend of Zelda that's not so much about wandering the countryside as it is slaughtering hordes of ugly monsters.
