The Good Old Days
Overall, however, Dungeon Master was probably the most revolutionary game for the roleplaying genre. It introduced the player to many unique puzzles, the first visually pleasing and incredibly authentic first-person dungeon. The sound, overall gameplay and a very powerful mix of puzzles and monster encounters made the game as exciting as you could wish for. Until today, the game has been rarely matched, and never really surpassed.

Quandary
Our first 'Reflections' review for 1997, then, is another of our old favourites. Over the holidays I installed the original Dungeon Master to try to identify just what it was that captured the allegiance of so many roleplaying enthusiasts (me included); and to determine just how well a game that is now at least 10 years old, shapes up against the 'new kids on the block'. Of course, roleplaying games have marched on since the mid 80s, and in many respects Dungeon Master shows its age, but, regardless, it is still an entertaining game, and it surely retains some of that power to ensnare.

Pelit
Klassinen luolaseikkailu, joka on edelleen yhtä tuore kuin ilmestyessään. Pakko-ostos.

Abandonia
This is a must-have for any RPG or dungeon crawler fan, but everyone else should give it a try as well. Read the background story in the manual to get in the mood and the technical details about spell-casting and you're ready to go! The game 'only' gets a four, because I really missed some moody music in the background. It was probably left out due to memory limitations back then, but still it's a shame. If for some reason you want to try the game in a more modern jacket, you can play one of the many clones (some of which have been made using high-tech 3d engines) or the Java version which is an accurate copy of the original, only with better graphics and sound-effects.
