WOW! MechWarrior 2 may have been two years late but the end product was worth the wait. This is one of the most intense simulations I have every played. From the introductory cut scene to the actual game play, I can't seem to put this game down. If you are looking for an on the edge of your seat, heart pounding, no blinking, eye drying game, you have to give this game a try!

Over two years of development were necessary for the completion of what could be Activision's most successfull title ever on the PC platform. Based on the FASA's BattleTech Universe, MechWarrior II features a unique 3D engine that generates polygon-based terrains in real-time with various environments and immerses the players into a no-mercy challenge.

Mechwarrior 2 catches your attention and holds it; crammed as it is with quality gameplay and lovingly implemented detail.

MechWarrior 2 is, without doubt, one of the finest titles on the PlayStation and is even better than the PC original — itself accepted as being one of the best titles to the format.

Mechwarrior 2 (MW2) is a descendant of FASA's incredibly popular Battletech board game series. Battletech fanatics were thrilled when the board game made its way to the PC. A series of PC games followed and the rest is history. Finally and thankfully MW2 has made its way to the PlayStation. So how does the PSX version stack up against the PC version? Read on and you will be pleasantly surprised.

The audio is top-notch, the graphics are great and the game play is intense enough to keep you up well past bedtime. A great game, but to look great, it needs a quick machine.

Eingeschworene BattleTech-Fans werden vor allem die Modifikationsmöglichkeiten begrüßen. Einziges Manko sind die schwachen Textures. Trotzdem kann jeder Fan bedenkenlos zuschlagen!

Overall, MechWarrior 2 is an engaging first-person action game on the cutting edge of gaming technology. I got stuck on a couple of missions for a while, but soon mastered them and completed the game, and unless you set the difficulty to hard the average gamer should be able to finish this game. I liked the graphics, but they weren't quite interesting enough to be my ultimate pick. However, the gameplay and audio took up the slack to make for a really engaging experience. I give MechWarrior 2 a score of 87 out of 100 and would recommend it to any hardcore action/sim fan. Enjoy this one and be sure to pick up the expansion pack, Ghost Bear's Legacy; it's just as good if not better than the original game.

Auch ohne den FASA-Atmosphäre-Bonus wäre Mech Warrior 2 ein erstklassiges Spiel. Grafisch ist in den Missionen und in den Menüs einiges geboten, außerdem stimmt die Mischung aus Action und Strategie mit einem guten Schuß Simulation einfach.

MechWarrior 2 is a great play, although the learning curve is kind of steep, aggravated by the lack of an actual manual. Instead you have the liner notes for the CD, which contains basic instructions for installing the game, a very brief getting started page, a bit of troubleshooting help, and a basic keyboard layout. On-line you have two help files: Codes and Procedures and Mech 2 Technical help. Codes and Procedures is I guess what you would call the game play manual. It is actually quite extensive. You should definitely read it first. It is available either by itself on the MechWarrior 2 CD or within the game whenever you aren't actually in the cockpit of a 'Mech.

Looks fine, sounds great and once you master the controls it plays well too. My only wish is that they hadn't left out so much of the strategy element to the game when converting it from the P.C because as a pure shoot-em-up, it doesn't quite reach the "Classic" status. Having said that, it looks and moves better than the other previous versions so I guess we cant really complain.

Win95 has a lot of advantages over DOS, and this new version of MW2 tries to take advantage of them all. It does a very good job of it too. The only problem is Win95's difficulty with joystick and device compatibility. That aside, MechWarrior II: The Pentium Processor Edition for Windows 95 is the best Win95 game yet. If you're looking for non-stop heart-pumping action with that distinctive sim feel and enveloping atmosphere, SFX, music, and voices unlike any other title, this is the ticket. With NetMech, its almost like getting two games for the price of one. This is the game that all Win95 games wish they were, for now.

Trying to take a super-complex, big robot combat-cum-strategy game and turn it into something vaguely playable on Sony's console isn't easy. And yet, amazingly, Activision has not only managed it with Mechwarrior 2, but it's managed to pull it off with great aplomb. The result is one of the best PC conversions yet seen on Sony's machine.

Overall, Mechwarrior 2 is a solid game. When you get to the eighth or ninth level in one of the clans and manage to win promotion up the ranks, it starts to get interesting. Unfortunately, it never manages to hook you in with any addictive flavour.

Overall, the Arcade Combat Edition of MechWarrior 2 is a good game, albeit not the PC version. That is to say, what it lacks in painstaking detail and strategic battle it makes up for with fast paced shoot-em-up action. Like Jurassic Park's transformation from page to screen, it's not as technical as the book, but the high-speed thrills justify the price of admission. MechWarrior 2 for the Saturn stands on its own.
