Nicki Minaj: The Empire

Nicki Minaj: The Empire is game about an aspiring rapper who is introduced in the industry after a chance encounter with pop icon Nicki Minaj in a subway in Queens, New York. It is similar to the earlier Britney Spears: American Dream, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, Katy Perry: Pop and Kendall & Kylie where a celebrity guides the player's character on the road to fame. All of these titles are based on the Stardom games.

With Nicki's help the player's character needs to complete a variety of tasks through a linear story. As in the previous games, interaction is largely limited to moving between locations, dialogue options and tapping stars to complete projects. Projects are participating in rap battles, doing gigs and promotions such as photo shoots, shopping for clothes etc. Players can create a custom male or female protagonist and with every level up additional clothing options and accessories become available, for free or using the basic cash or the premium crown currencies. For certain events a specific outfit is required with a minimum style level. Most actions consume energy and this requires some time to recharge or can be bought with a currency. Any purchase with real money removes all advertisements permanently. The character has a house (crib) that can be decorated with a large amount of items. The character gathers fans by completed actions and needs to sell songs and make it to the A list starting at the bottom of the E list. Locations in the game include Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

While the games in this series have a lot in common, they also have some specific features unique for each title. In this one it is the ability to create custom raps by choosing words for a small pool to complete lines. These raps are then used as songs. Players can also choose a beat and rap freestyle on top of it using the device's microphone. These raps can be shared with other players and each week Nicki Minaj chooses one as a featured rap. Also new for this edition is different locations that act as chat rooms to meet other players. Using an in-game social media platform called Beatbook friends can be added. The camera is higher than the earlier games, showing more of the environment.

The game contains a video introduction with a message from Nicki Minaj, she does the voice-overs for several lines in the game and this title was also used to launch a new track called Ain't Gone Do It, making its debut in the app.
