Tools of Destruction är spelnirvana.

Some greedy gamers might complain over the lack of multiplayer, especially seeing that the Lombax and his cyber pal have displayed their online prowess in previous titles. But honestly, even the most jaded multiplayer junkie will likely forgive the absence of this element when they discover the degree of care and quality that's gone into crafting the single-player experience. It's pacing, polish, and through-the-roof production values make Tools of Destruction an outstanding effort. So many series suffer from sequilitis, offering second, third or fourth entries that reek of phoned-in, uninspired development. But Insomniac has done the complete opposite, creating an experience that's clearly a labor of love for Ratchet and Clank's keepers. A sequel is inevitable, but topping this level of gaming goodness should pose the Lombax's greatest challenge.

The Ratchet and Clank series has always been about a multitude of guns, big explosions, and — after the first installment — innuendo-filled subtitles. With the newest installment of the series, Insomniac has moved Ratchet and Clank to the next-gen with the first PlayStation 3 appearance of the lombax/robot duo in Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Although the innuendo is left behind (unless you take “tools” to mean…well, you know), everything that makes the series great has remained intact, while improving on just the right things to make this the best Ratchet and Clank experience to date.

There is so much more that I could say about Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction - but I've already said far too much, because it's such a complete joy to play that you really need to experience it and discover all that it has to offer for yourself. Quite simply, it's as perfect as a game can be - state of the art in every respect, from graphics and animation to sound, music and voice acting, to story and script, to level design and environment themes, to puzzles and action, to weapons and gadgets, to hidden items and lifespan-prolonging side missions and collectibles. Truly this is a game that has it all, and the definitive PlayStation 3 title so far. It's not very often I ask this question, but I'm going to ask it now - are we sure that I can't give it 11 out of 10?

But don't let these minor complaints fool you: Tools of Destruction is an amazing PS 3 game that fully leverages the power of the console. It sets the bar high for not only the series but for all PS3 games to come. It is, without a doubt, reason enough to buy the system.

A love of cartoon humour is essential to enjoying this game - and you may want to knock a star off the final score if gratuitous surrealism and animated hijinks leave you cold - but TOD is still one of the most inspired and enjoyable PS3 romps to date.

Snackbar-Games.com
Overall RACF: TOD is a well-crafted and highly entertaining experience that fully utilizes everything the PS3 has to offer. Some might say that the additional mechanics detract from the core gaming presented, but I say it helps break up any sort of monotony the game veers towards. Ratchet and Clank Future is bound to be a classic and it is only a matter of time as to when you play it.

There's very little else to say about Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction other than the PS3 finally has another AAA title in its library. Unless you absolutely abhor the series, there is no reason you shouldn't pick it up.

Overall, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction will open the eyes of Playstation 3 critics, as it delivers a colorful and upbeat gaming experience that newcomers and die hard fans will both thoroughly enjoy. From its adrenaline pumping high speed chase sequences, to its intergalactic slugfests, Insomniac’s latest and greatest has a little something for everyone.

So if you've been holding off on buying a PS3, you now have the perfect excuse to head to your local game store and pick one up. Oh, and if you see a furry little critter running around with a very large firearm, you may just want to go ahead and get out of the way. If you try and pet him, he will likely blow you into many, many pieces. I learned that the hard way. Sigh, I'm going to miss my mom...

Game Chronicles
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is as close to a perfect game as the PS3 has seen to date. If variety is the spice of life then Insomniac has created a next-gen spice rack and filled it perfect visuals, awesome sound and music, creative weapons and gadgets, great gameplay, and tied it all together with an amazing story that will leave you on the edge of your seat as the final credits start to roll.

Wonderwallweb.com
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction is an impressive first outing for the pair on the Playstation 3, sure it may not offer much different from previous versions of the game, but the additions that are in help to make the game even better than it was before, and anyway you know what they say, if it ain’t broken then don’t fix it.

Netjak
As for other complaints? Well, apart from the ones mentioned in the gameplay, there just aren’t any other issues. Had a few levels not leaned on the killer water crutch and the difficulty was ramped up a little (just take away all the advancement from the previous checkpoint up to death), Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction would have tempted me to hand out a supremely rare Netjak 10. However, a 10 does fall under that always shoot for but impossible to reach category. Still, Tools of Destruction gives Sony something it desperately needs, a solid reason to actually own a PS3.

PGNx Media
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction isn’t a groundbreaking sequel by any means. But thanks to super-refined gameplay, unbelievable graphics, and a generally fun atmosphere, you’re looking at one of the PS3’s best games.

Game Over Online
TOD is a gorgeous, compelling and exciting title that seems to do everything right and does so with the style and grace seen very rarely these days. Even if you are among those who feel that the platforming genre has run its course, you will likely find more than enough contained herein to keep you from writing off the genre altogether. All but the most jaded of gamers will find something to love here, and will be compelled to play through the entire eleven hour game plus challenge mode more than once, hunting and scavenging for the multitude of secrets within. Get a ratchet and smash open the piggybank, then take your clanking bits of change to the game store and pick this one up; it is destined to earn the honor of “best platformer ever.”

Gamernode
If you've played and enjoyed the previous Ratchet & Clank games, you didn't even need to read this far. Knowing that Insomniac did what they do should have been enough. In Tools of Destruction, Insomniac is back doing what they do best, and they do it better than ever, This is the best Ratchet & Clank adventure to date, and at this point the best game the PS3 has to offer. Hopefully this new "next-gen" series start for Ratchet & Clank and the lack of great PS3 games will ensure the series finally gets the mainstream respect it deserves.

I already feel like I'm short-changing this review by not slavering over every little minute detail. The truth, though, is that I really don't need to gush more than I already have. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is the single best game you can find on the PlayStation 3 right now, and at the end of the day, it's the best in the series. If you own a PS3, you need this game in your library. It is the absolutely definition of a must-have title, and right now is the front-runner as game of the year, hands down. Now if you'll excuse me, I feel the itch of a third run-through of the game coming on...

DreamStation.cc
What else can I say? Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is what I bought my PlayStation 3 for last year. It has taken a full year to finally bring a game to the system that is worthy of being called next generation. You will not see a game with this much detail in the graphics, sound, and gameplay on the PlayStation 2. Granted, the old Ratchet & Clank games were great, but Ratchet & Clank Future has taken it to the next level. If you are a fan of shooter, platform, adventure, and action games and own a PS3, then you shouldn’t miss this game. Ratchet & Clank is really that good and it is one of the first games to make me really enjoy my PS3.

Worth Playing
At worst, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction will seem a bit short for a die-hard platform franchise chronicled in such famous past editions. But the hours there are hardly too few, and each hour you play is an hour of pure enjoyment in which the current-generation production values are stellar. Future is a great game in its own right, despite its positioning to show off the power of its publisher's platform, despite the fact it does very well show off the PS3's capabilities. Future is only to be missed if you can't ever step outside yourself in video games to be goofy, to toss Groovatrons, to interact with a cartoon, to do things other than perpetrate ultra-violence on splinter cells or alien invaders — in which case you'd be wise to consider what sort of harm your gaming hobby might be doing to you.

Insomniac is on a roll with PS3 development. This is the second title they have met expectations with in the console's short lifespan. The development teams at Insomniac are modern masters and each person deserves enormous credit for the work they have achieved. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is like asking for a pony for your birthday only, when you open your present, it turns out to be a unicorn. Odd simile, but once you play the game; you'll understand perfectly what it means. If you can only play one title from 2007 on the PlayStation 3, it has to be Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction.

This is a game that the PlayStation 3 owner can not miss out on. I do not care what you are interested in playing this year, if you own a PlayStation 3 there should be a lot of incentive placed on getting around to going through this game. It's the most action-packed, smooth, colorful, explosive, creative experience I've had on the PlayStation 3 to date. If the Xbox 360 fanboy can run around waving BioShock, Halo 3, and Mass Effect claiming that they are the best games they have ever played, PlayStation 3 owners can show the same love for Insomniac's dynamic duo. The only competition for Game of the Year in the PlayStation 3 library would stem from the big late-year exclusives, Uncharted and Folklore, or the multiplatform Call of Duty 4; but Ratchet and Clank, Insomniac, and SCEA will most likely be on my short list for anything that would crown it king of the PlayStation 3 library.

Gamers' Temple, The
ToD is every bit a Ratchet & Clank game, well, except for the missing multiplayer game, and a great start for the series on the PS3. This one should be in every PS3 owners collection.

It’s genuinely difficult to think of a more solid title on the Playstation 3. The entire package, from presentation to graphics to gameplay is near perfect. My only complaint would be the fact that it’s somewhat short (I’d estimate it took me around 10 hours) and very easy. Dying doesn’t have any real negative consequences at all, as you’ll retain all the bolts and experience points you had when you died. It’s a small annoyance, but Bioshock proved that a game can still be great even if dying isn’t much to be feared. Don’t let the somewhat “kiddy” look of the graphics deter you from experiencing one of the best games on the system – Tools of Destruction is excellent.

IGN
Whether you're new to R&C or someone who has played them all, Ratchet and Clank Future deserves to be in your library no matter what. Not only has it supplanted Going Commando as the best title in the franchise, it's also the best game of any series on the PlayStation 3 thus far -- and that's saying a lot when you're up against Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden, Warhawk and Insomniac's very own previous effort, Resistance: Fall of Man.

Gamer 2.0
All in all, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a return to form for the Ratchet & Clank series and it shows that not every graphical showcase has to feature stunning realism. It’s nice to have a light-hearted game that’s also a platformer, as platformers in general have been lacking so far this generation in lieu of shooters, racers, and sports games. Insomniac has definitely hit another one out of the park for PS3 owners, so make sure you save some of that holiday cash for Tools of Destruction amongst the other big games of the holiday season.

VGNZ
Ratchet and Clank Future Tools of Destruction rests on the brilliant foundation of the previous versions and builds a game of stunning innovation, design, creativity and most importantly fun. This is the game for any discerning Playstation 3 owner, and the first of, hopefully, a wave of amazing games.

GameZone
Tools of Destruction feels a bit short at times, but that is only when you are just driving through the game, going from point A to point B in the shortest route possible. When you take time to explore, you realize how expansive this game is, and how wonderfully designed. Insomniac did a great job with Resistance: Fall of Man, but Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction shows where its forte lays. This is the studio’s second next-gen title and it is truly a terrific bit of gaming.

Game Informer Magazine
Game journalists have been beating the drum for next-gen innovation for the past few years. You know how we always say that it’s not enough to make a prettier version of a last-generation title – that you really need to offer us something that wasn’t possible five years ago? Well, leave it to Insomniac to make me a liar. Because, in all reality, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction sticks extremely close to the formula that made the series one of the PS2’s best. There’s not much here I haven’t seen before. But I don’t care, and neither will you, because this is an adventure packed to the brim with vivid characters, amazing gameplay, and heartfelt humor. In a way, it’s the ultimate in video game comfort food – a familiar old favorite for those times when you’re hungry for nothing but an expertly crafted good time.

IGN Australia
Tools of Destruction isn’t particularly progressive in its game design, nor is it particularly difficult, but it’s a joy to play nonetheless. There’s just so much to collect, so much explosive firepower to wield, and so much charm to the environments and characters that you’d be crazy to let this game pass you by. Don’t expect a radically new vision of Ratchet & Clank – this is very much an extension of the series, but it’s the most polished and accomplished game in the series to date.

The Video Game Critic
This is a very likeable game. Ratchet and Clank Future isn't the most original platform-shooter you've every played, but it's probably the best.

Console Monster
There’s just something about this title that makes me want to go and play it again and again. Maybe it’s the superb weapon selection, the humorous story and characters, or the intuitive game play elements; I can’t quite put my finger on it. Whatever it is, Ratchet & Clank is a great 3D platform title, with plenty to do for all ages. If you loved the previous titles in the series, I can imagine this one being a fantastic addition to the series. If you’ve never played it before, like me, but you’re a secret lover of 3D platform titles, this is by far the best one around.

Futuregamez.net
Despite the lack of multi-player this is a fantastic title that deserves every PS3 owners full attention. In terms of audio visual presentation Ratchet & Clank never looked so good - and nor do too many other games. Most importantly the gameplay is addictive and engrossing with plenty of variety in the locations you will explore and the enemies you will encounter. This is another superb game on the PS3 and deserves to be in every gamer’s collection.

1UP
Ratchet & Clank games are always easy to like, and this one is no exception. Friendly and funny, with the wacky weaponry and varied gameplay that are the hallmarks of the series, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction hits all the Ratchet notes with a well-balanced mix of platforming and gunplay. The weapons are as wacky as ever, the gameplay is as varied as in any game in the series, and the level design is as clever as you'd expect.
91
UGO (UnderGroundOnline)
In the end, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction may not be the most original game on the PS3, but it's definitely the most fun, and, currently, it's our current pick for the best game on the system. Here's hoping that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune can follow suit when it hits later this year.
91
Gaming Age
It has the beautiful next-gen visuals, new weapons and gadgets and even some well-implemented motion controlled segments, though overall it does nothing out of the ordinary or unexpected. It's an enjoyable, beautiful ride that just seems kind of familiar in the end. As long as you aren't expecting anything more than that, you'll be highly entertained and totally glued to your PlayStation 3 until the game is complete and you've saved the universe once again.
91
GamingTrend
While certain games have tried to wear the crown of the PS3 holiday flagship title, Ratchet & Clank Future wears it proudly and with good reason. A solid platformer with laugh out loud humor and stunning graphics makes for a title that anyone could enjoy. Don’t miss out – this is one of, if not the, best title on the platform.
91
Da Gameboyz
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a solid debut of the franchise on the PS3. Although the story is kind of weak and the difficulty is not as hard as it could be, the game manages to rely on other strengths to make this a great ride. With great graphics, good sound and a lot of gameplay features, one can overlook the few weaknesses and have a good time with this game. Tools of Destruction is a solid addition to anyone’s library of PS3 games and something they can show off to their other console owning friends.

Wham! gaming
Also, the story really doesn’t go anywhere. Sure, you have a big showdown with Emperor Percival Tachyon, but by the end it feels like Insomniac was only setting up a sequel rather than fleshing out a strong plot. Considering the package as a whole though, these are really minor complaints. “Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction’s” charming universe, gorgeous graphics and wicked gameplay make it one of the best holiday titles of the year.
90
Boomtown
Overall Ratchet & Clank provides a lengthy and very enjoyable gaming experience that PS3 owners will relish. It’s definitely one of the first games on the system that many will consider ‘must own’, and if you’re a fan of platforming action, and want to show off your lovely new HDTV-PS3 combination, (perhaps with a Home Theatre Kit too? The soundtrack is pretty great, especially within the cinematics) Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction brings the previous generation’s top gameplay, injects it with a few Sixaxis treats and pumps up the presentation to a top standard for a package that few will want to miss. Plus it’ll last you longer than Heavenly Sword.

GameCell UK
So there you have it. A game right up near the top of the PS3 tree. Insomniac should be given the key and freedom of Sonyland for the quality work they have done in the console’s early days. Ignore the pedants who claim ‘evolution but no revolution.’ This is a polished, brilliant sounding, looking and playing gem that has built upon a solid method and brought it right up to next gen standards. This isn’t Kate Moss looking plain and bored saying ‘get the London look” for the umpteenth time in a crap TV commercial. This is David Attenborough producing yet another, even more stunning looking quality documentary. You catch my drift?
90
Gamervision
Beyond these minor complaints, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a very solid game. It probably won't keep you on the edge of your seat for hours at a time, but it will certainly keep you entertained for 12 - 15 hours, even if they are broken up over a couple of weeks.
90
videogamer.com
So, in summary Insomniac has delivered one of the first PS3 games that is absolutely worth picking up. Whether you're a platformer fan or fancy some frenetic blasting action, Tools of Destruction fits the bill. Combine the enjoyable gameplay (that's fun for all ages) with some of the best visuals the PS3 has seen and you have a game that every PS3 owner should own. It also might just convince a few fence sitters to take the plunge on Sony's new console.
90
GameDaily
Overall, though, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is worth buying -- even if you have to plunk down several hundred dollars for a PS3 to play it. The production is unmatched, the gameplay is genuine and exuberant and the humorous dialogue and weapons will keep your funny bone busy alongside your trigger finger. Get it, play it, and love it. The Future is now and we can't wait to see where Insomniac takes it from here.
90
Yahoo! Games
Online play is an easy oversight to overlook, though. The single-player game is as tight as any platformer around, and the presentation is so far beyond what we've seen before that you simply can't afford to pass it up. The future is bright, indeed.

Meristation

Hooked Gamers
Ratchet & Clank Future is very similar to its series past games and that is good, as Insomniac had already concocted a near perfect action-platforming formula. The ending ties things up nicely while also hinting that there is more to come. For Playstation 3 owners and Ratchet fans in particular that can only be viewed as a good thing. It may have taken almost the entire year but the PS3 finally has its first great game of 2007.

3D Juegos

Jolt (UK)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a classic title, but in some respects only just. The PS3 has been crying out for an established series to help it along with a high quality instalment, and Insomniac have finally delivered a title worthy of being a must-have. They’d just better pull out all the stops for the next one, or we’ll set the Death Springs on ‘em.

Despite the lack of challenge or true innovation, if you're a PS3 owner you simply must pick up Tools of Destruction, whether you're a newcomer to the series or have been there since the beginning.

Game Valor
It also signals a change in the PS3’s fortunes with the arrival now of serious, heavy-hitting titles which will hopefully give the console its own identity over time. With the promise of more Ratchet &Clank in the future it seems there’s much to look forward to as well.

PSX Extreme
The bottom-line is that we all expected Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction to deliver, we simply have that much faith in Insomniac. This is visually one of the best looking games on the market. And with an engine that's gunning it at 60 frames per second, and capable of 1080i upscaled, R&C Future is also running on one of the best engines, as well. The gameplay is precisely what we've all come to love, except louder, more heated, more energetic, more fun, and with all new gameplay mechanics added to the mix. Unfortunately there is no multiplayer, but we hope to see maybe a patch sometime in the future. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is most certainly worth every penny it retails for. Go out and get yourself a copy.

Extreme Gamer
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is the future of the Ratchet and Clank series. 100% fun and addictive, anyone who jumps into the adventure will be hooked. Insomniac pulls out a lot of horsepower and creative juices making Ratchet & Clank Future the best game in the series. If you own a PS3, without a doubt you need to check out this game and if you’re still on the fence about purchasing a PS3, Ratchet & Clank Future is one of the best reasons to cough up the cash. The ballet has been placed in the game of the year box as Sony and Insomniac provide one of the best gaming experiences this year with Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction.

It has become increasingly clear during the short lifespan of the PS3 that Insomniac has proved to be an invaluable asset to Sony. While Bungie produced a killer app for Microsoft once every three years, Insomniac now has two (the other being Resistance: Fall of Man) for the PS3 in just a year. Ratchet and Clank Future is the perfect showcase for the power of the PlayStation 3, and you know what? It’s a lot of fun to play too. All of a sudden, the PS3 has got game, and Ratchet and Clank are leading the way.

There it is, ladies and gentlemen, the first truly great first-party PS3 title of this year's holiday season. Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction is funny, plays like a charm, looks awesome and has a lot of variety to boot. And if that wasn't enough, it's also pretty lengthy. Okay, so it's not the world's most innovative game, but sometimes you couldn't care less.

Fight back the urge to let the linear levels, infrequent fixed camera, weak story, and one misguided Sixaxis implementation snag deter you. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a welcome return to the series' platforming roots and even more welcome addition to the often overlooked genre. Sony should be ecstatic to have this familiar duo back in their active library of games and headlining the PlayStation 3 software line-up this holiday season.

I really loved Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. I loved it so much that I'm probably going to purchase the previous titles for my daughters (and future son). It's got action, it's got a clever weapon system and it's got puzzles. Add those with the fact it looks gorgeous and it plays great, sounds great, and you can't really go wrong. Outside of the wacky camera and short gameplay, this game is simply amazing and a must-have for any Playstation 3 owner.

This is the first quality platform game on PS3 and Ratchet and Clank’s biggest outing yet. Although it offers nothing new, it refines the series with crisper visuals, improved flight controls and the addition of Clank’s solo missions. If you weren’t a fan of the series before this won’t change your mind, but fans will enjoy it.

The Ratchet and Clank series debuted five years ago, and since that time their have been four titles and a few mobile spinoffs. Even with all of these titles we're still not burnt out on Ratchet and Clank and quite obviously neither were Insomniac who have updated Ratchet and Clank for the PlayStation 3. No shortcuts have been taken in bringing the game to the PlayStation 3 and Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction is one of the best titles yet. For a series that has never waned that's quite a feat.

The nuts and bolts of the game are rooted in gleeful chaos, and it rarely strays too far from the path. Ratchet has always been armed with a wild array of upgradeable firearms that wreak fantastic damage, and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools Of Destruction is at its best when it's generous with ammo and targets to hurl it at. Levels where the robot sidekick Clank goes solo slow the pace, but these detours are distributed sparingly. The frivolous firefights match well with the game's juvenile sense of humor. Space-pirate jokes and bawdy wordplay are plentiful. The game's cast is a cavalcade of science-fiction goofballs—the best are Cronk and Zephyr, a pair of cranky, ancient war-bots who grumble and gripe like Grandpa Simpson. Tools Of Destruction may momentarily furrow its brow, but it still knows to put stock in the standbys: explosions, puns, and humor at our elders' expense.

The whole experience certainly delivers on expectations from the previous games, although without ever really breaking the mould. This is a new Ratchet and Clank, but it is thoroughly the tried and tested action that we are experiencing, be it dressed in some impressive new garb. Whilst many had hoped that this would represent a new dawn for the series, it is more simply another new day, much the same as yesterday. Nothing wrong with that and plenty of fun to be had, but like Bill Murray discovered in Groundhog Day, the same day over and over can become wearing. Insomniac have literally thrown everything into the pot, it is just that maybe a bit more discretion and imagination was needed if they were to truly re-invent their most famous franchise. This is a great looking game that delivers a truly next generation experience; it's just one that will remind you of those older, fuzzier times had with Ratchet and Clank of old.

The entire adventure lasts around twenty hours, and once completed players can restart on a harder difficulty and keep all their current items. While it is fun for younger kids, adults may find themselves bored with the gameplay, no matter how many times they can watch dinosaurs dancing. Still, the game is almost flawless and is appealing to the whole family, though some more than others.

Tools of Destruction is the first RC game I’ve played and I must say, I’m quite impressed. I’m a sucker for zany, yet deep characters and this platformer-meets-shooter provides an interesting mix of such, though I’m upset at the overall uselessness of Talwyn and her robot bodyguards. However, the game shunts itself from being greater than it is because of its heavy reliance on quirky, yet ridiculously powerful weapons and its crooked and unfocused storyline.

Good Game
However, at the end of the day it’s a standard platformer, definitely polished and one of the best PS3 games of in its class. 8/10 from me.

Whether Tools of Destruction is for you depends largely on whether you got on with the previous Ratchet & Clank games. If you did, and you loved them, then there's absolutely no reason not to go out and buy this, because it's a beautifully slick revision with some of the best videogame visuals around, and the usual excellent storyline to drag you along. In terms of the PS3 in isolation, it's easily one of its strongest exclusive titles to date, and should help erase some of the memories of a largely forgettable first 12 months for the machine. In some senses, Insomniac does need a clip 'round the ear for doing very little to innovate the gameplay in any meaningful sense, but if you're happy to play through a wonderful high definition version of an old classic, put your money down - you won't be remotely disappointed.

When all is said and done Tools of Destruction can be best seen as a refinement rather than the big step forward that some thought it would be when it was first announced. At its core the game is still what it has always been, offering its own unique blend of platforming and shooter action. However, this time it features bigger levels, zanier weapons, and much more scope than ever before. As a result it’s certainly hard to step away from the game feeling any way disappointed - unless, of course, your expectations were far too high to begin with.

For the wealth of features and elements that make ToD such an attractive proposition, it has a strange duality at its core. All at once it feels very familiar and yet fresh. Indeed the visual clarity really does help propel the game to new levels of artistry but on the other hand, it feels like a game played many times before. Regardless it never stops being anything less than great fun to play and hugely engaging. The almost pathological lust for bolts and new collectables bundles the player along with great enthusiasm.

The question you need to ask yourself, then, is as follows: do I like the Ratchet & Clank series? If the answer is anything other than an emphatic "no!" then you owe it to yourself to check out this newest installment. If your answer was an emphatic "no!" then you may want to re-evaluate your passion for gaming, because it's hard not to love a game so focused on providing a continuous jet of combustible goodies while still maintaining a decent sense of humor about the whole affair.

With its sweet graphics and spot-on game play, this is easily the finest offering in the series. And it's genuinely funny, too. Way, way funnier than that fucking stupid Back to You show starring Kelsey Grammer.

It's not often that a developer will create games as different as Resistance: Fall of Man and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction in succession. Even more impressive is that Insomniac has brought the same attention to detail to both. I'm disappointed that the developer didn't decide to include multiplayer in Tools, especially considering how well this was implemented in Resistance, but even with just the singleplayer experience, it's still one of the best games on the PS3.

Insomniac have created a tough task for themselves by stringing the series out this long -- stagnate and you're accused of being a one-trick pony, innovate and gamers will complain that you left out their favourite bits. It's really quite something that they've created something we still want to play, without even minding too much that there aren't any hoverboard races in this one. Tools of Destruction has finally given the PS3 something to be proud of, and is pure nerdvana from start to finish.

There are no truly wrong instances in this game that jump out, and many of the problems are just minor enough that they can be easily forgotten about after you actually get into the game and begin to enjoy it. It is definitely worth a look for those interested in something that has variety, and delivers great fun at the cost of being a short game with a few minor issues.

Although it's hard to see Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction as little more than a quick attempt to fill in the holes in the PS3's catalogue, the series' formula is still entertaining. Coupled with the layered approach and the stunning presentation, means it's hard to find a reason not to pick up the duo's latest adventure.

Good Game
I’m pleased that this is a solid game worthy of the Ratchett and Clank franchise… younger gamers will have a good time with it… I’m giving it 7.5/10.

Try as it might, Tools of Destruction doesn't achieve the same level of greatness as its predecessors. It's too easy, the story falls flat, and the "throw everything in including the kitchen sink" style of gameplay takes too much of the focus off the tight platforming and fun combat. That said, the gorgeous visuals and generally fun gameplay are enough to make Tools of Destruction worthwhile for the series' fans and newcomers alike.

Tools of Destruction is more of the same, it’s still warm and comfortable, with the added snuggle of high definition.

Although I personally found Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction to be a little disappointing, there's no denying that Insomniac rarely fails to produce a title of respectable workmanship. The action here will completely satisfy anyone looking for the kind of lighthearted, kinetic run-and-gun that was mastered several iterations ago, and my grievances with it are more of the intellectual variety than anything else. Although Tools of Destruction is nothing more than a relaunch of very familiar material in HD format, it still delivers a known and respectable quantity in terms of gameplay. That much is clear. However, the level of enjoyment gleaned will depend solely on how eager a player is for another installment that's just like the others, only prettier.
