Description official description

Your comrades are wounded and stranded on the battlefield. The only way to get to them, is via a handcart on a railroad track. Your job is to protect the medics, who are riding the rails to get to the wounded. In their path, are hordes of enemies on the ground and in the air shooting everything from fireballs to rockets. In addition to the chaos, there are land-mines lying on the track just waiting to be run over.

Get the paramedic to the camp in one peace

The Good
Rescue Mission is another shooter from Sega. You must use the Sega Light Phaser to take down the military trying to bomb the paramedic, who is trying to go around the railroad track in his cart and heal his fellow troops. You have to repeat this in five scenes, including the jungle, swamp, village, bridge, and ammunition depot. As well as taking down soldiers, you must destroy the land mines that get in your way. Once the paramedic finally reaches the camp, you move on to the next scene.

There are two types of soldiers that you have to worry about: red ones as well as white ones. The red ones pack more of a punch than the white ones, as they can carry better weapons. In between the scenes, you are given some statistics on how many troops that were saved in the scene, and how many soldiers of each type that you have killed. Once an hostage has been rescued, he leaves you an item that may or may not kill all soldiers on the screen if you happen to shoot it.

Rescue Mission is less complicated than Gangster Town, as you get to choose one of three difficulty settings. The whole point in playing a scene is to shoot the soldiers once they appear on the screen and before they fire their weapons. If the soldiers happen to fire their weapons before you shoot them, you can always shoot these weapons and watch them explode. Each scene takes about five minutes to complete.

The graphics in the game are well done, and one example of this is the bridge scene and how you need to cross over water in order to proceed. The sound is also good, as it is slightly better than previous games.

The Bad
Nothing.

The Bottom Line
If you enjoy using the Light Phaser to shoot things that appear on the screen, then I recommend playing this game, and several others like it, including Laser Ghost, Shooting Gallery, and Wanted. I really enjoy shooter games like Rescue Mission, as they have got no complicated plot that you have to follow.
