This game is one huge interactive comic book, from the "thwip" of Spider-Man's web-shooters to the dripping sarcasm of Spidey's quips. Stan Lee's melodramatic narration is a hoot, and the animation is top-notch and proves that the Playstation still has a lot of life left in it. Varying degrees of difficulty from Children to Experienced ensure that the entire family can enjoy the game on different levels. This is a must-have game for anyone looking for the best in the action/adventure genre, and I give it a big thumbs-up.

It may not seem like much now, especially since the formula’s been pumped up so well by Spider-Man’s sequels. And it may not have seemed like much back then, when Spider-Man’s closest competition was Superman 64. But when you step back and look at it and realize what it accomplishes, it becomes clear: Spider-Man is simply the best.

SpiderMan is definitely this years best adventure game as far as I'm concerned. With all the features all the great stages that you will want to play over and over again SpiderMan is a bang for the buck. The some of stages may be a bit short but there are quite a lot of them and rumor has it that you can play as SpiderMan in his Venom symbiote costume. SpiderMan is an exceptional game, there are many different modes, secrets, and best of lots and lots of variety. Pick up SpiderMan, it is one of the most enjoyable games out there and you will want to beat it over and over again. Now if you excuse me I have some web-slinging to do.

Yet again, Edge of Reality delivers us a brilliant port. Comic-book to videogame conversions are quite popular in this industry, but plainly said, most of them suck. Activision's/Neversoft's design of Spider-Man has been "super-heroic" from the beginning. The first time I got my hands on Spider-Man, I was taken back by how true to the web-slinging action it was. Not only could you swing from building to building, but you could climb and sneak around on the sides of them. It doesn't get much better than that. On the technical side of things I think all the voice samples make this game what it is. It's perfectly in keeping with the sarcasm seen in the actual comic. Spider-Man for N64 truly delivers and gives you a chance to be Spider-Man. I highly recommend this to any fan of action/adventure.

Spider-Man is remarkably enjoyable, but don't be too picky. Some minor controller and graphical issues make this game far from the most polished kid on the block. Having said that, games are first and foremost about fun, and Spider-Man certainly is that. Our suggestion is to toss aside cares about fussy details and nitpicking and dive into what the best adaptations of a comic book to a game that you'll ever find, period.

As a past and current fan of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Activision's Spider-Man is quite simply a dream come true. It is the first such game that plays how I have always pictured a Spider-Man game would. In addition to the great gameplay, it offers wonderful bonuses and "spiderific" intricacies to satisfy any aficionado. Sure, it is hampered by some control and camera problems, but pound for pound this game is one of the few that deserves to have the Spider-Man license attached to it.

Neversoft's most recent PlayStation release, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater showcased the developer's talent for taking a subject universally deemed ill-suited for the videogame medium, and they produced an incredible videogame experience in spite of it. When I heard that the same developer would make Spider-Man, I was excited. But after I saw the first images of the game running in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater engine, I knew it would be something special. The end product is probably the truest portrayal of an interactive Spider-Man adventure that has ever been made. Where as previous Spider-Man licensed games were nothing more than glorified Final Fight clones, this interpretation has removed the usual 2-D limitations and created a large 3-D world for Spider-Man to explore and make real use of his special abilities. Just like in his comics and TV shows, Spider-Man can scale walls and crawl along ceilings, shoot his web at enemies and lift and toss heavy objects at enemies.

What can I say about this game? It's the best superhero game on the market, it's really a lot of fun to play and it manages to walk the fence perfectly between overly serious and stupid/goofy. Since playing this game I have charged myself with a mission: With great video games comes great reviewing responsibility -- and this is a great game.

The basic gameplay is involving and fun, as you swing from building to building beating the crap out of the bad guys. In some ways, the gameplay reminded me of the classic Genesis Spiderman game. The voice acting is expertly done, including narration by Stan Lee, and bonus features include different Spiderman costumes, level select, and an artwork gallery. This is the game Spiderman fans have been waiting for.

While Spider-Man does not perform as well visually as we’ve come to expect from the Dreamcast it still makes for a fun game. If you haven’t got around to playing any of the previous versions of the game yet and have access to a Dreamcast, this is one to take for a spin.

While the game mechanics are intact, making this just as fun as the other console versions, it's important to weigh in the differences when deciding between the two. Although the Nintendo 64 version has better graphics, some features were sacrificed in its transition to cartridge form. Many die-hard Spidey fans will probably be happier with the PlayStation version, or those wanting the best of both worlds may want to wait for the Dreamcast version instead, which looks to take the strengths of both games and enhance them considerably.

I've played a lot of superhero videogames over the years and Spider-Man comes closest by far to making me feel like a superpowered being in tights. Batman for the NES is still my favorite superhero title, but Spider-Man comes close. For those of you who were ripped off by the dreadful Superman for the Nintendo 64, redeem yourself by picking up or at least renting Spider-Man for the PlayStation.

This has lately become the sad mantra chanted to Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast owners...”if you haven’t, or couldn’t, get this game on PlayStation, be sure to do so now.” Spider-Man for N64 is an almost perfect translation, with the only big loss being the real-time cutscenes that occurred between every chapter being replaced by a frame-by-frame text version. Even though you won’t hear the words to the classic cartoon at the game’s opening, you can still do whatever a spider can – spin a web any size, catch thieves just like flies. Look out! Here comes the Spider-Man.

Overall however, the game's minor flaws aren't enough to derail all of the effort put into the game. It's about time Spidey got justice in the world of video games and it's been well worth the 15-year wait. A definite must own for all fans of great games.

Fans of the long-running comic series and players in search of the ever-elusive novel game would do themselves a favor by checking out Spider-Man for the N64. Though the game isn't perfect, it is a wonderful accomplishment on the part of the developers, and it is simply very fun to play.

Spider-Man remains one of the best superhero games ever. However, this version lacks many of the awesome cutscenes, and is hampered by more problematic control and camerawork.

Despite a few glaring problems that could be fixed with a few game patches, Spider-Man is fun, addictive, clever and worth your attention. Perfect for a “pick it up, put it down” game that can be played for a bit without any time investment or something for your kids, the game is just a casual kind of fun that’s been missing these days.

Now that Neversoft's had a go at it, though, Spider-Man fans should be pleased to know that the video game world has been blessed with an excellent framework on which to base future Spider-Man games - and an exceptional game to boot. Neversoft's Spider-Man was built around the engine that powered Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and that engine's ability to render such expansive environments was doubtlessly vital in creating the teeming, often precarious playgrounds in which Spidey and his loathsome villains now frolic. The game's systems - from Spider-Man's arsenal of abilities to the camera that follows him - are all wonderfully functional, but, of course, they're not without their warts.

What made this game difficult to rate highly was the poor controls -- more time should have been spent fine tuning these aspects. It’s neat to access secret costumes, but how fun is a game that has the player fighting against the controls during crucial sequences? A player should also be rewarded for excelling at a game, not be punished by a cheating AI for being too good. Spider-Man can be most frustrating when the player needs to learn how the game expects him to play through a level instead of doing what might seem intuitive. And yet, for all its detractions, the game was fun and entertaining and a delight to play most of the time. Spidey fans may even want to add another 10-15 points to the score I gave this game just for all the effort they put in to capture the world of Spider-Man.

Though this game had several good points and was fun to play, it lacked long term entertainment value unless you are a die-hard Spider-Man fan. Swinging around the city loses its thrill and one can only beat up the same six bad guy so many times. It also didn't take that long to beat on normal mode and the differences in difficulty pretty much amount to how many hits it takes to drop your opponent. So, buy it if you really like Spider-Man; otherwise rent, win, and move on.

WindowsAdrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
Spider-Man is a highly authentic and enjoyable release that fully captures the spirit of the comic book hero. The action is fast-paced and well-staged, and you really become absorbed in the virtual world of the famous arachnid. But two major deficiencies -- in the control system and the camera work -- almost succeed in ruining this title. While the replay value is not high, if what you want is to an action-packed romp through Spider-Man's world, you will find virtually complete fulfillment here.

For the most part, I have enjoyed playing Spider-Man, but not because of the game or the adventure. I have enjoyed it because of how cool Spidey looks swinging through the city and utilizing his multitude of abilities. Plus I used to be a certifiable comic book nerd, so seeing Daredevil, the Human Torch, Carnage and many other Marvel greats is a real treat. But taken purely as a game, this one could use some radiation treatment.

It's a shame that more time and effort couldn't have been put into making this Spider-Man port better suited to the PC and the PC gaming audience, as well as improving some problems that hurt the original game. The awkward controls and camera in particular often take the wind out of the game's sails. At its best, Spider-Man immerses you in the colorful, enjoyably implausible Marvel Comics universe, and swinging between skyscrapers and firing off webs offer up plenty of adventurous, if shallow, thrills. If you've ever wanted to play hero for a day, Spider-Man will let you, but be ready to fight with the game's weaknesses as well as its villains.

To sum it up in one word, this game is disappointing. With poor gameplay and embarrassing graphics, Spider-Man definitely looks better on the shelf than on your computer. Why the cut scenes were left in such a miserable state is puzzling, but the developers must know what they're doing. Unless you run around in a Spider-Man outfit at night, jumping across your neighbor's roofs, you might want to wait for the next installment and hope it gets better attention.

I can't help but compare Spider-Man to
Oni, a game I liked slightly more. They share that mixture of hand-to-hand and weapons combat, sparse graphics, a compass system, and more. In each of these, however, Oni does the better job. They're also both surprisingly non-violent for combat-based games...well, non-violent in that they don't show blood. I guess it's okay to punch, kick and throw people to certain death off skyscrapers just as long as you don't see any blood or leave bodies lying around. Someone explain that to me.

Liefhebbers van arcade-actie die niet kunnen wachten tot 'the movie' en geen console hebben, zullen wellicht toch een beetje blij zijn met Spider-Man: The Action Game.

The game engine is, believe it or not, a modified Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 engine, and it looks quite outdated. Besides the good character design, graphics are monotonous and repetitive, and poorly textured. The graphics make a statement, and the statement is: this is a consol port!

While Spider-man for the N64 has some of the snazzy spider's super skills down pat, it falls prey to some boring gameplay design. Spider-man is a rental for sure (love that web-swingin!!), but only the hardest core, Spidey-underoos wearin' nut should feel compelled to buy this game.
