The Incredible Hulk: The Pantheon Saga
Description official descriptions
The Incredible Hulk is an isometric 3D action game.
The popular Marvel comic book hero The Hulk returns to the PC, Playstation and Saturn systems to battle tons of lowly enemies and the occasional monstrous super-villain. When the lawful Pantheon society of superheroes kidnaps the green giant, he joins forces with his abductors and smashes through 13+2 isometric 3D levels (in a look reminiscent of the Loaded series of games).
True to the comic books, the Hulk relies on no other weapons than his massive muscles to punch, kick and crush his enemies. When he has accumulated enough gamma energy, he may use powerful special moves like a Vortex Spin or the Floor Hammer. Rare bonus items also allow the Hulk to summon one of the four Pantheon team members Atalanta, Ulysses, Ajax and Hector to assist in the thick of battle.
Most levels include at least one arch-enemy, such as Piecemeal, Trauma & Lazarus or the U-Foes. Luckily, the Hulk’s regenerative powers allow him to regain health slowly. Little seems to be left of the Hulk’s legendary leaping capacity, however, so the green meat ball is forced to hop from platform to platform every now and then.

Hulk Should Smash Bad This Puny Game
The Good
In the early - mid 1990's the Incredible Hulk storyline took on a different, more serious path. The Hulk now had the mind of Bruce Banner and was leading a hi-tech family of super heroes known as The Pantheon. This series dealt with some pretty serious issues, i.e. mental health, genocide, human rights, sexual orientation, global politics, philosophy and HIV. So, it was interesting to see how a complex and serious action packed comic book series would be adapted into a 32-bit video game from the people who gave us Tomb Raider.
The Bad
The game has little to do with the original source material, beyond featuring most of the same super heroes and super villains. Heck, the game's story line is almost totally non-existent with a few all-too-brief intermission sequences offer a bad, cliff notes version. It is almost hard to believe that Eidos, the creative folks who brought us the Tomb Raider series, managed to produce a game with a weak storyline and only average, 32-bit graphics and sound. In terms of game play, many of the offensive and defensive moves are difficult to execute.
The Bottom Line
The Incredible Hulk: The Pantheon Saga is simply a bad game in every objective category. Eidos is capable of doing much, much better and Playstation 1 games such as Spider-Man or Iron Man/X-O Manawar illustrate how to adapt comic book characters into successful games. Sadly, it would seem that the game was either made by people who had not read the comics or were simply not given the time and money needed to properly adapt the series into a cool game.
