Description official description

The player take the role of a Starfleet Cadet whose father died in the battle against the Borg at Wolf 359. When the Borg attack again, Starfleet won't allow you to stay and fight them. However, the mysterious entity "Q" (played by John deLancie) gives you the chance to travel back in time to Wolf 359 and try saving your father and his ship.

Star Trek: Borg is an interactive movie filmed in first-person through the eyes of the cadet. Q initially takes the player onto the bridge of the cadet's father's ship as an invisible observer. Later, the cadet is transported inside the body of the ship's security officer, where he can use his knowledge of upcoming events to change the outcome.

The interface is handled entirely through mouse clicks to make decisions or interact with puzzles at key points during the movie. Players can also pause the movie at any time with a single left-click, and gain access to a tricorder cursor. This cursor can then be clicked on any person or object in the frame to get a Q-narrated description of its backstory or function.

A rather good but short FMV adventure

The Good
It's got Q in it!, played by John de Lancie!!!. Now that's casting, the rest of the actors in the game are okay and that's about the only good part about the game.

The Bad
Limited interactivity ruins this game, unlike other interactive FMV games Star Trek: Borg sacrifices the quailty of the acting in the game than playability.

The Bottom Line
For Star Trek fans only, everyone else, look for something else, there are better FMV games than this.

Trivia

Q's Borg costume

The Borg costume worn by John de Lancie was previously used in both parts of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Descent by Michael Reilly Burke (as Goval), Gary Hunter (as an unnamed drone), and Tom Morga (as Crosis), and was sold on the It's A Wrap! sale for $2425 in 2008.

Production

  • The uniforms worn by the crew of the USS Righteous are the ones that debuted in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. By the Star Trek canon, they were introduced around 2369, while the Battle of Wolf 359, during which Star Trek: Borg takes place, occurred in 2367. The reason for this discrepancy was the unavailability of uniforms from Star Trek: The Next Generation when Star Trek: Borg was filmed, as they were no longer in use by any of the shows or films at the time.
  • In the Star Trek canon, 39 of 40 Federation ships were destroyed at Wolf 359. Only the Cheyenne-class ship USS Ahwahnee was salvaged. The USS Righteous was created for the purpose of the game, and reuses footage of the USS Melbourne's destruction from the Deep Space Nine pilot episode Emissary.
  • The bridge of the USS Righteous is a reused set of the USS Excelsior as it appeared in the Star Trek: Voyager episode Flashback.
  • All members of the main cast had minor or episodic roles in the Star Trek series with the exception of Murray Rubinstein who played Dr. Thaddeus Quint.

Setup

Borg's installation program is written from the perspective of the Borg. For example:
