Wayne Studer worked at MECC (Minnesota Educational Computer Corporation) and its late-1990s successor, The Learning Company, from June 1983 to June 1998. He was the instructional designer of a number of children's educational software programs, including .. Oregon Trail II Super Munchers World GeoGraph USA GeoGraph Wagon Train 1848 the Time Navigator series the MECC Dataquest series Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia 1997* and Compton's Deluxe 3D World Atlas, among others.

He also served as a consultant or co-developer on various other programs, including several editions of The Oregon Trail, Amazon Trail, and MayaQuest. After 1998 he moved into the field of online adult education.
