So the VC releases of all the Gen 1 pokemon games were released today, and Nintendo pulled out all the stops to make the 27th "pokemon day". The game unlocked not because of a store push, but at the moment your time zone hit midnight. You could even get it early by lying to your easily deceived 3DS that you lived farther east than you actually did.

They're still published by different branches of Nintendo depending on region, so I don't think it counts as a worldwide release. You bring up an interesting point about changing the system clock, though, and I'm wondering if it might warrant putting the release date as the 26th for the regions it applies to.
