The "Berzerk variants" group warns not to confuse Berzerk with Robotron: 2048. Both are top-down arena-style shooters with multidirectional fire, but the group doesn't tell how to avoid confusion. So, what is the defining difference?

The differences I can think of (it's been a long time since I played either one) are: that Robotron has no walls, no exits and requires saving of humans?

I think level structure is the most noticeable difference. Robotron consists of single screen levels that has to completed in order while Bezerk has a larger game world that consists of multiple interconnected screens that the player can move between somewhat freely. Bezerk is also slower with less enemies per screen.

Berzerk is a single stick shooter. Robotron is twin stick. It may seem like a small difference, but it's huge from a gameplay point of view. Derivatives of twin stick would be games like Smash T.V. and Total Carnage.

The problem is that the twin joystick control disappears in most home versions.
