So to be sure, do we mention all the dudes in the kickstarter credits and assign them as developers (when applicable). Me has 116 credit screenshots for one game, that's a tad too hardcore in the got no life department for my tastes.

Can I just submit the developer credits for now? Stupid credits file won't open properly, there's no way in hell I can enter 116 pages of credits manually.

Everyone who is in the credits roll is to be entered. Yes, Kickstarter credits can be a serious pain in the butt - I speak from experience - but so are AAA publishers and music credits. It is not our place to decide who is worthy or not.

I guess I'll just enter the developer credits for now and will give the kickstarter credits to someone else who is willing to enter them. That is unless I can't get this credit file open.

That's a good idea. Technically, it's not forbidden to enter incomplete credits.

To be vain and honest, the idea of showing up in places like MobyGames and IMDb has been a factor I take into consideration when deciding where to toss my Kickstarter bucks--so those who see that such people actually get in the database are probably indirectly helping fund future games by inspiring future contributions.

The similar and scariest case I know of, though, is Final Fantasy XIV's Legacy credits. As part of their turnover from the original version to A Realm Reborn, anyone who subscribed for at least 3 months near the end of the old version became a Legacy member and got several perks--in-game goodies, future discounts on monthly fees, and the option to be added in to the game's credits. You can find these credits on YouTube, and the Legacy part lasts... about 71 minutes? Considering the rate of scrolling, there's got to be at least 25,000 names in there.

Yeah, I never filled out the form to appear in the credits though :(

It just makes a whole lot of extra work for everyone using the site in the future. If I enter Smith Smithson now, I get only one choice. If I do it in the future, I get five choices, four of which paid for some shitty shareware game.

I just recorded the credits of a free-to-play MMO I am currently adding, They credit about a thousand people who bought their biggest item package or something. Urgh. Even I have my limits.

This stupid file is annoying the beejesus outta me. Anyone willing to try it? I don't seem to be getting any luck and my "how to read gibberish" Google search is coming up with poor results. :p

Filename: credits1.txt
Type: .z archive
Size: 60.2 KB.

Winrar and 7Zip doesn't work. Using notepad and wordpad only comes out with gibberish.

If anyone is willing to help me out before I start spamming the game developer's servers with tentacle porn, PM me and I'll email the file to you. Danke.

Did you try opening it in a hex-editor?

Aye. Still gibberish.

Just for curiosity's sake, what is the game in question?

Slightly related: POMAH has submitted the credits (pending) for Shadowrun Returns, but only intends to add the development credits. He did upload the in-game backer credits screenshots. Just shout if you want them.

My top search result for that is http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Ftp/uncompress.html#pc Which seems dreadfully outdated, but if you say regular attempts won't work...

Doesn't work. Also the instructions are missing one important part.

... .z?

Weird.

http://fixunix.com/aix/85267-question-uncompressing-z-files-windows-2k3-batch-mode.html

Check posts 7 and 8, they have instructions on how to use the tool correctly.

I'm beginning to think windows identified it wrong. There's no other explanation really. Well, other than Iggy's, but that one is out of my hands.

That .z is Unix compression is quite clear, I'll say.

I think it's compressed with UNIX compress.

Gawd the credits wizard is annoying. Stupid thing won't let me add Luis Martinez and insists the dude's name is Luis S Martinez. I claim no responsibility that several dudes using orchestral oboes are now also identified as graphic artists by the system. :p

Known bug, workaround: put an extra space in between first and last name. The system will then be confused and allow you to pick from a list.

I forget, but did we get a system to upload textual data and have MG automatically convert it to credits? Would solve lots of problems.

Takedown: Red Sabre is another huge undertaking if someone actually wants to add that game first. Sadly its credits are in a low quality video roll instead of a text file.

If it's acceptable to add (complete) developer credits first and hope someone is interested in adding the Kickstarter ones later, that's nice too.
