Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 3

Moby ID: 10798

Pedal-powered tricksters are back on the Game Boy Advance with a feature-filled extreme sports title that is on par with Acclaim's best offerings.

Ride With Style

Acclaim claims to have shoehorned more than 1,000(!) different show-stopping tricks into this third installment of the Dave Mirra series. Along with the can cans, Supermans and seat grabs are signature moves for the four other pros included in the game:

*Ryan Nyquist

*Colin Mackay

*"Luc-E" Englebert

*Mike Laird

You can create as many as three custom riders with the ample Create-A-Rider feature. Choose from different head and body types, then customize the colors to your liking.

Modes

In Proquest mode, you first choose a rider and level, then attempt to complete the given challenges within a two-minute time limit. There are 10 challenges per level. All levels challenge you to post high scores and collect the letters M-I-R-R-A. Level-specific challenges mix things up a bit and require you to bust a trick on one of the unique objects or gaps.

Completing challenges in the Proquest mode is the key to unlocking new levels and upgrading your rider's stats. In this mode, you can boost your created rider's stats in six different categories and purchase better bikes.

Session mode gives you a chance to take a quick two-minute run through any unlocked level. Freeride mode lets you take a leisurely ride without any time limit.

To get the most out of your Pak you can link up for multiplayer competition using two GBAs, a GBA Game Link cable and two Game Paks.

Graphics and Sound

Given the huge list of tricks you can perform, animating them all is quite a feat. The smooth animation more than makes up for the blocky looking riders. On-screen indicators like the score and balance meter are all helpful without distracting too much.

Each level has a distinctive personality, from the vibrant dragon sculptures in Chinatown to the gritty Tanker. Each level also features clean and crisp-sounding music from artists like Green Day, Saliva and New Found Glory.

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 3 upholds the high standards of the Dave Mirra series, with loads of tricks and levels.
