Shining Soul II

Moby ID: 13002

In a world of darkness, heroes will shine!

Let your soul glow!

Over time, darkness slowly engulfed the kingdom of Klantol. In the later years of the great drought, monsters invaded and terrorized those who lived there. As a last resort, King Marcel recruited the heroes of the land to bring back the Light and banish the Darkness.

If you enjoy RPGs, you will love this epic journey. The graphics are what you would expect from a Game Boy Advance RPG, but the gameplay is as deep as the inside of a volcano.

Features * Multiplayer mode * Customizable characters * Many items, spells and weapons from which to choose

As you begin your journey, choose one of eight characters. Some characters cast spells while others go for old-fashioned weapon-oriented combat. Choosing the Warrior means you'll dish out punishment through heavy weaponry. The Dark Wizard keeps its distance and uses magic to defeat foes. After you select your character, you can change its name and color.

To get the most out of the game, explore, explore and explore some more. Doors are hidden in walls. Some of the castle dwellers have missions for you to accomplish. And once you think you're done exploring, explore again.

The palace is full of people looking for something. Find out what would make them happy and find these items during your quests. For instance, Zavi, a local at the inn, helps you collect cards of your enemies. If you give him three Goblin cards, he will give you a Poison Mummy card. Afterward, he's still willing to trade.

Not all characters can use all weapons and shields. However, all characters can use explosive devices such as grenades. You'll need these weapons to uncover items hidden in barrels and other objects.

Don't waste your resources early on. When fighting several monsters at once, lure them into groups. Shrewd tactics will help you get the most out of your attacks.

The particularly valuable Angel Wing whisks you back to the castle so that you can re-energize your hit points and spell points. When you're refreshed, Angel Wing your way quickly back to the same spot you just left.

The soul of Shining Soul II deals with Soul Magic. You'll encounter these spells in the course of your journeys. When you have Soul Magic equipped, you'll notice that your character's Soul Gauge fills as you defeat enemies. Once your gauge is full, you can unleash a massive soul attack on all on-screen enemies. Once you equip a different Soul Magic, the Soul Gauge empties.

With the help of a Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable, other players can join you on your quest. If you start from a saved file, your journey begins where Player 1's game left off. (Each player will need his or her own Game Pak.) When you play as a unit, the quests are the same as in the single-player mode. The enemies, however, are tougher. If a member of your party's life is reduced to zero, that character will follow the others around as a spirit until that character is revived with a Soul Return.

Not feeling overly friendly? Challenge your compatriots to a duel in the Royal Colosseum. You can either play a free-for-all or split up into teams and battle for bragging rights.

Bottom Line

The replay value is high for this quality RPG. With so many quests and side-quests, items to collect, and tough bosses, this is a game well worth your time.
